White Dress Run

The Beginning

Another successful White Dress run completed. Slow Clap organized a great charity event with the process going the the Autism Aspergers Friendship Society. Months in the planning, with help from Hot Quickie and Beer in the Rear setting trail.

Thankful for all those that signed up in advance, at the better rate, to help get a handle on the numbers. The later sign up folks paid a small premium for the later sign up. All is good as 26 participants, in White Dress splendor converged on the random parking muddy parking lot close to the railway tracks.

The circle starts to form

A fine range of white dress finery was on display. Special attention to the accessories and Village Tags that show the investment in the cause.

Here is the fashion show.

Tommy Two Fingers ran the circle and went through announcements and introductions. We had some new boots and archives joining the group.

With our proximity to the train tracks, there were opportunities for the trail conductors to “blow the horn” to acknowledge the group!

Train traffic needed to be worked through

The hares were called into the circle to describe the marks for the trail. Two versions available: Green chalk for walkers and Orange chalk for the runners.

Runners marks – follow these and keep on trail

The hare had illuded to a nominal 10 km run for the running bunch, and 6 km for the walkers. See if this was what we actually ran in the summary. Spoiler…. way longer.

The pack is instructed to disperse and find the trail marks. The pack was released in a flurry of white costume.

The Trail

Confusion ran rampant as the pack headed out to find true trail. Of course they went of madly in the wrong direction until the true trail was figured out.

Along the sidewalks, construction, and many street crossings interfered with the fluid pace of the pack. Eventually, some longer stretches were found to keep the pack moving.

The the maze of small streets and treed neighbourhoods, the trail unfolded. Eventually, as we descended through Cliff Bungalow, the first stop of the trail was upon us. The Unicorn Pub on 4th street SW was a welcome break from the first leg of the trail.

The beer was good but we were informed that time was up and we have to get back on trail if we plan to finish the the next leg of the trail.

Leaving the Unicorn Pub, we headed off toward the Elbow River and Lindsay Park over the bridge.

The packed headed over toward the Stampede grounds to see if they could entertain the security guards that considered the white dressed runners some sort of invasion.

Photo opportunity

We observed the Cirque do Soleil tent under construction as well as other projects as this part of down is being reconstructed. Artwork by the entrance to the convention centre apparently has some connection to Snevil’s daughter.

The walkers found a photo opportunity not to be missed.

Close to Macleod Trail, the regroup vehicle was spotted and we could enjoy more parking lot refreshments.

3rd stop – regroup beverages

Much mirth and merriment were enjoyed as hashers were reveling in the joy of the run and the beer they were drinking at this second stop of the trail.

A group shot for the charity group was taken to prove that we were there and all dressed up!

From the parking lot, the pack was released once again to go and find the trail. The East Village and downtown were beckoning.

Library tour

With the next pub in site, the group was excited to have another refreshment opportunity at the other Unicorn Pub on 7th ave SW.

A fine time was had at stop 3, but it was eventually time to go and find the end of the trail. Enthusiasm for following true trail was waning for some, but others charged on to rack up the big km’s. Ultimately, we end up back in the parking lot where we started and prepared for down down’s.

Time for down down’s. The group formed something like a circle and the Religious Advisors were chosen as Booty Camp for the walkers, and Hump the Shark for the runners.

A choir of Camshaft and Shakesbeer were chosen to provide the songs for the down down’s.

Ready to go!

Down Down’s continued until they were done. A bit difficult to follow but successfully completed. The On In was declared to be Craft Brewing for those that needed more refreshments. A fine time was had by one and all.

On the piss.

Trail Summary

As hard as it is to believe, the advertised 10 km run was more. Great trail and thanks to the organizers for an epic trail with great stops.

Hash Extra

Plenty of pictures were provided. Here are some additional shots for your viewing pleasure.
