The Beginning

Camshaft has a significant birthday and could think of nothing better than to set trail to honour his dwindling days of 69. It has been a good year, but all good things must come to and end.

The phycological trauma of changing your digits to new numbers can be difficult for some. However, it is also a time for celebration! Why not set the trail and host the pack back at your house so that everyone can have fun! Sounds like a good plan.

We are having the wettest July ever here in Calgary. It would be fitting to drive to the run in the brilliant sunshine only to have the clouds roll in and dump rain on our circle. I believe that this was the plan all along, and we were not disappointed.

The pack gathered in the parking lot of the Dalhousie Canadian Tire, close to the pedestrian bridge. A solid turn out with archives and new boots were encouraging to see!

The circle assembled as everyone was happy it was not currently raining.

Insane Bolt conducted his Hashmaster duties and called the circle to order. A round of announcements and introductions followed.

On cue, the hares were invited into the circle and the rain started simultaneously.

The hares went through the marks for the epic trail they had planned. The pack was released as the rain intensified. Do I really need to get my raincoat? Good question.

Camshaft pointed out a direction and the pack was released.

The Trail

As the rain intensity increased, the hare was helpful in giving us clues as to where the true trail was. With parking lots and traffic lights, the pack got a bit split up. Nevertheless, marks were found and the trail was followed.

After taking in the regroup refreshments and noting how quickly the weather had changed, we took in the views of the rainbow then headed back to the parking lot. Down down destination hosted by the birthday boy.

We convoyed the short distance to get ready for the down down’s inside.

The Down Down’s

Mmmm Lady Fingers and Camshaft hosted the down down’s from their nearby address. It was a logistical challenge to get the people and the gear into the cozy basement location. Mission accomplished as most folks shed their wet shoes and socks to go for the barefoot look.

There were many good things happening with food, drink and birthday cake, acknowledging Camshaft who is opening up the book on a new decade.

Hardly was the Religious Advisor (RA) for the evening. He prepared his program with the challenge of how many hash shit’s can we get to the birthday boy?

Choir was selected and the festivities commenced.

First in the procession of hash shit’s was one that Skewbic Hair diligently dragged around the wet trail. A fine addition to his costume.

After a significant effort, Hardly declared the group “on the piss” so we could continue of mirth and celebration of Camshaft’s birthday.

A fine celebration for the birthday boy as well.

Trail Summary

A fine trail of 6 km or so, with a much appreciated minor shortcut to improve our trail enjoyment. Lots of new territory in the wilds of Dalhousie to explore.
