River View near Mountain Park SE

The Beginning

A fine day in April means that the weather can be anything. Hot Pants has been chomping on the bit to set his first trail for the Hash. Thankfully, a date near the end of January was available. Being a virgin hare, Hot Pants was supported by both Skewbic Hair and Dastardly to ensure he had the materials required for trail setting, plus the wisdom to set a great trail.

The trail was to be set in the Mountain Park SE neighbourhood, adjacent to the the Bow River. Lots or green belts and neighbourhood trails to explore. Starting point was selected to be Coasters Bar & Grill. A suitably questionable bar with cheep beer for the locals. Trail was planned from here, however, a change of plan ensued when it was discovered that they close early on Monday evenings!

The group assembled at Coasters in anticipation of the run.

Not open Monday evenings!

A good turn out with no visible snow remaining from the weekend snow events.

Insane Bolt ran the circle and went through the announcements and introductions.

The hares were called into the circle to describe the marks they have made to describe the trail. Apparently, as one of the hares was the phot guy, no pictures were taken. I am sure you can visualize the H mark for on. the circle for a check, and the circle with an X for the check back. There was a promise of 5 playgrounds as well as a regroup. Pink flagging as well.

The Trail

Off from the parking lot heading South, marks were found . After a few false trails, the pack found the marks and headed out to discover the trail.

Finally, the regroup was found and refreshments were enjoyed in the last park.

Regroup found

The regroup continued until it was time to go back to the bar parking lot, and redeploy to an open pub in the neighbourhood, the Kilt & Caber Ale House in Makenzie Towne, a short distance away.

The Down Down’s

Stool Stuffer was the Religious Advisor for the evening. He volunteered the week previously, so he has had ample time to think of content. The section of the Kilt & Caber that we had our reservation was cozy. The club has been upgraded to Terriors from Harriers .

Stool Stuffer got his act together and suitable beverages were delivered.

Stoolie kicked off the ceremony by selecting a choir. As there were a faction of the group that chose not to go over the bridge to “the other side”, they were singled out for shortcutting en masse.

Large choir of short cutters

After the choir sang themselves a song, the hares were called up for a down down. With Hot Pants as the virgin hare, he was supported by Skewbic Hair and Dastardly.

A selection of other crimes and punishments were called out by the RA.

With the down down’s complete, the pack settled into a pattern of eating, drinking and chatting. A fine evening, in spite of the bar relocation problem.

Trail Summary

A fine trail in the range of 5 – 7 km, depending on whether you explored “the island” over the bridge. Not all chose this route, even the hare had thoughtfully laid trail and provided a delightful trail running experience.

Hash Extra

As the walkers were prolific with picture taking, it is only appropriate that they be included in the write up. Some addition random pictures as well?

Hashers Spotted at Viewpoint

The Beginning

If it was not for the last minute, nothing would ever happen. Shakesbeer stepped forward to volunteer to set trail from James on Fourth Pub on 4 TH street SW. In the Mission. Cliff Bungalow neighbourhood, there is plenty of hills and parks to keep the Hash entertained.

Parking is not so easy at the Pub, so efforts were made to find a parking spot and head over to the Pub. A group of hashers assembled outside on the sidewalk, with some fancy hats present.

Gathering outside the pub

Camshaft ran the circle and went through the announcements and the introductions.

The hare was called into the circle to describe the marks.

With the marks described, the pack was released to find the true trail.

Eventually the trail ended at the regroup vehicle, where the walkers were able to enjoy a suitable refreshments while the runners made their way to this point.

After the regroup, the pack headed back to the pub to prepare for the down down’s.

The pub was ready for us with beer and food which were enjoyed prior to the down down’s were ready.

The Down Down’s

Our Religious Advisor (RA) for the evening was Hump the Shark. He diligently prepared his material and got the beverages ready.

With the music now turned down, Hump the Shark was ready to go. He selected a choir of Roaring Nancy and Hot Pants.

Ice Receding on the Bow River

The Beginning

Tighty Whitey volunteered to set trail from the Burn Block Social Club in Inglewood. Known for being an interesting space with pinball as a feature, seems like a great place to set the hash run from. Tighty Withey has some some convoluted references linking the run number (2455) with his beer number (whatever that is) of 5555. Something about $5 pints and a run that would be 5 km’s. Sounds like witchcraft to me.

The Burns Block Social Club is housed in an ancient building in Inglewood. A character space with beer and pinball. The group found parking and converged on the space.

Hot Cheeks finds the door

Inside, the group spread out enjoying happy hour pre run pricing as they prepared for the trail.

Camshaft and Insane Bolt called on the group to head out the back door and form a circle in the parking lot.

Camshaft went through the introductions and announcements.

I think the chalk marks on the dirt are very readible!

Tighty Whitey indicated a direction and the pack was released to find the marks.

Out of the parking lot, marks were found as the pack headed toward the Bow River.

After refreshments and chatting, the group headed back to the pub to prepare for the down down’s.

The Down Down’s

As the pack assembled in the pub, it was time to prepare for the down down’s. Lying Sack of Shit was the volunteer Religious Advisor (RA). He prepared his program in anticipation of delivering the rewards and punishments to the group.

The RA called upon Pull My Woody and Insane Bolt as the choir. They chose to sing the Canadian song, written on the back of Hardly’ s shirt.

The program began with a down down for the hare. A fine trail, in spite of all the number 5 items that had to be appreciated.

A series of crimes and punishments were handed out by the RA. Some truth, some fantasy, and some accusations that were unfounded.

We were declared “on the piss” as the RA volunteer for next week was determined!

The Trail

The trail was somewhere between 5 and 7 km ‘s with great views and challenging terrain. A fine trail by Tighty Whitey.

Run 2454 – Daisy Does Stoneyslope

A Bit of Neighbourhood History Spotted

The Beginning

Daisy Duke volunteered to set trail for a great run. His knowledge of the Haysboro/Southwood neighbourhoods would come in handy in devising a challenging yet entertaining trail. The weather was good in early April with snow and warm temperatures at the same time!

Daisy Duke has influence with the Stoneyslope Brewing Company. As such, he was able to get them to open up on a day that they are usually closed. A private venue for the group is a good thing!

Not quite patio weather

The group arrived and settled down prior to the run. Apparently, there was a power failure in this neighbourhood. The good news is that they could still sell us beer and take credit cards using a cell phone as a hot spot! Happy days for all!

People kept arriving and the small space continued to fill up with hashers.

Camshaft and Insane Bolt declared it was time to head outside and circle up in the parking lot.

Camshaft works on getting the circle sorted out

Insane Bolt went through the announcements and introduction. We had a couple of returning archives joining us, Lying Sack of Shit and Krusty.

Finally, the hare was called into the circle to describe the marks he had set for the trail.

With the marks described, the pack was released to find the trail.

The Trail

From the parking lot, we found marks that sent us across Elbow Drive SW to the community of Haysboro. Along the streets and through the alleys enjoying the sloppy wet sunny conditions.

Playground time early in the run

Some historic sights were park of the trail. An old ranch house and a very rare tree were included for our historical appreciation.

Some other features of the trail were the ski truck. Quite a find in this neighbourhood!

The long wet alley lead to the regroup vehicle. A sight to see and the source of great fulfilment.

Regroup found

From the regroup, the pack headed back to the pub to prepare for the down down’s.

Interesting beer and food choices were available. Patience with the single server was the way to go!

The Down Downs

Skewbic Hair was the Religious Advisor (RA) for the evening. He assembled his program and patiently waited for the beverages to appear.

Skewbic Hair selected a choir of Rashy Bush and Hump the Shark. They enjoyed a down down as they sang themselves a suitable song.

Trail Summary

This trail was in the 6 to 8 km range, depending on your level of embracement of the check backs and back checks. A great trail through interesting neighbourhoods.

Many pictures were taken. Here are some that may be of interest to the group.
