The View From The Hill

The Beginning

Blue Balls volunteered to set trail on a warm summer evening. He has a number of routes in the Signal Hill area that test our ability to find trail and experience both uphill and downhill.

Starting from Buffalo Bob’s Pub, a familiar place for the hash, we gathered in the parking lot to prepare for the trail.

The group started to form something that looked like a circle as they chatted and discussed recent events.

Booty Camp ran the circle as both Insane Bolt and Camshaft were out of town.

OPP displays her off spring in training

With the circle formed, we had a special announcement to acknowledge the recent passing of Whale Wanker, (Tom Wheeler) a veteran Calgary Hash House Harrier. He will be missed by the group.

Booty Camp went through the circle formalities and called the hare into the circle to describe the marks.

With the marks described, the pack was released to find true trail.

The Trail

Out of the parking lot, the pack headed North to find a check indicating a change of direction. Madly off in all directions, eventually the trail was found.

Over Sarcee Trail to catch a view of the traffic as we head over toward Signal Hill.

Following our uphill and downhill experience, the end of the trail was in sight. The view of the regroup vehicle was a welcome sight.

With a private room in the back, we headed over to Buffalo Bob’s to do the down down’s inside.

Down Downs

On In was the Religious Advisor for the evening. He prepared his program and the beverages for the cerimony.

On In started the program by appointing a choir of Hardly, Snow Blower and Daisy Duke.

The first down down was for the hare, Blue Balls for setting a great trail. Well marked with great views. A little light on playgrounds, but the uphill and downhill made up for this.

With the down down’s complete, it was time to enjoy the company and refreshments.

The Beginning

With warm weather and mosquito season upon us, it was great that Mmmmmm Lady Fingers and Camshaft volunteered to set trail. Starting from the Bowness Community Centre, great terrain and the Bow River close by to provide great trail options.

The pack arrive and set up in the NW corner of the parking lot. The call to circle up was given by Camshaft and the group assembled in some sort of shape.

A circle in about to form

Camshaft called the circle to order and went through the announcements and introductions.

A circle of sorts

The hares were called into the circle to describe the marks that were set. There was some talk about the marks being obliterated by the severe rainstorm the night before, so this will be interesting.

Camshaft, Mmmmm Ladyfingers with help by Littlest Hoe were the hares.

The Trail

The pack was released to find the trail in the Bowness neighbourhood.

The Down Down’s

Stool Stuffer had volunteered to be the Religious Advisor for this week. He diligently prepared his program and started off by appointing a choir of Slow Clap and Karate Klit.

Seem to be missing some of the action pictures, as I would expect the a down down for the choir, followed by the hares to be call up and thanked for the great run.

Run with the Swarm

The Beginning

Krusty volunteered to set a trail in Fish Creek, Voltier’s Flats with help from Slow Clap. It has been a great mosquito season, coupled with the rain and mud to make this venue quite special

The starting point was Voltier’s Flats picnic area. Adjacent to Fish Creek, the chance of getting your feed wet were 100%. We were warned to bring dry clothes and bug spray.

Voltier’s Flats

The group arrived in the parking lot and started to get organized. Plenty of bug spray was a good choice, until it gets washed off at the first water crossing.

Circle Up

The hashers present tried to form something that looked like a circle,

Camshaft ran the circle with the mosquitos circling as well. He went through the announcements and introductions then invited the hares into the circle to describe the marks.

There was mention of flagging as well. The pack was released to find the true trail.

Avoid falling in

Through the forest, finding trail and false trail, eventually to the beer near sign indicating we were near the end of the trail. The mosquitos will have to find some new blood donors to feed them.

We think it is time for a refreshment!

The success of the recent Stampede Campout was acknowledged. A fine weekend of camping and running were enjoyed by a good number of the hash. Mmmm Lady Fingers and Camshaft did the heavy listing, with support by Stool Stuffer and Rashy Bush. Thanks to the organizers!

Trail Summary

Not the longest trail we have ran, but certainly the most mosquito bites per runner. The creek crossings were refreshing as was the oozing mud on the banks. Never a dull moment but I think the mosquitos were victorious.

Wilderness Trail to Sandy Beach

The Beginning

Stampede is happening in Calgary and everything is a party. Thankfully, Daisy Duke volunteered to set trail. Finding the starting point proved challenging for some, but Sandy Beach is a park area on the Elbow River jut south of the Glenmore Reservoir dam.

The access way to the lower parking lot has now all been paved, rather than the dirt track that existed in the past. The hash arrived and found suitable parking and waited for the pack to arrive.

Some were in Stampede costume with appropriate headwear. Other had the stampede spirit within. Camshaft called for the pack to circle up.

Camshaft ran the circle and went through the announcements and introductions.

The hare was called into the circle to describe the marks that had been set to describe the trail.

The hare mentioned flagging, and then the pack was released to find the marks.

The Trail

Leaving the parking lot, finding the first couple of marks proved challenging. However, the pack prevailed and marks were found and the trail was followed.

The walkers were the first to arrive back to the regroup vehicle, and prepared for outdoor down down’s.

Beverages were prepared and it was time for down down’s.

Down Down’s

Lying Sack of Shit was the Religious Advisor for the evening. He diligently prepared his program and started off by selecting a choir of Roaring Nancy and Resident Asshole.

The hare was called in to be acknowledged for his fine trail through the wilds of Sandy Beach.

Another milestone was celebrated. Apparently Skewbic Hair has achieved 1200 runs with the hash. A significant investment in both time and money. Bring on the half yard!

Control is important as to not be overtaken by the wave.

With all the significant rewards completed, it was time to find an RA for next week and down down the RA’s.

The down down’s complete, it was time to wrap up and head over to the Garrison Pub for debriefing.

Happy Canada Day!

The Beginning

A Canada Day Run with the Calgary Hash House Harriers has been a thing for some years. This year, Hardly and Twisty stepped up to host an afternoon run on the day, which happens to follow on Wednesday. There was a plan to make this event extra special with multiple 2 km loops with refreshment stops in between. BBQ to follow!

The plan was set and the trail concept was nailed down. Apparently, the weather was a problem and some rain appeared to eliminate the marks that had been set.

Plan B – live hare on a reduced concept. Two trails to enjoy.

The pack assembled at the Hardly and Twisty Haus, ready to celebrate Canada Day. A good turn out of 24 hashers showed up. Apparently the weather turned shitty and it became a “wait in the garage and drink beer” until things sorted themselves out.

The pre run assembly in the garage was where hashers waited patiently for things to change.

The rain stopped Sort of a circle was assembled as the pack got ready for their first trail.

Good weather for hashing

The pack ventured out to form some sort of a circle in the back alley. Careful not to get your feet wet.

Camshaft runs the circle

The hares were called into the circle to describe what marks to follow. Originally, the multiple trail scheme had marks with M, G, W and E for Moose, Goose, Wolf and Eagle. Apparently a 20 minute thunderstorm obliterated all marks, so the new plan was a guided runners trail and a separate guided walkers trail.

With the marks described, the pack was released to be escorted to the trail.

The Trail

Out through the back alley, the pack was off to find their way.

Eventually, it was time for the down down’s to begin. Refreshments were ready!

The Down Down’s

Mr. PeeeeeNut was the Religious Advisor. A choir was selected of Mmmmm Lady Fingers, and Bacchanal.

The ceremony started with singing the Oh Canada song, the Hash version printed on this shirt.

Mr. PeeeeNut engaged the group with his program. First off, the hares were rewarded for setting a fine trail and hosting the Canada Day event.

Then we have Snow Blower, achieving 300 runs! Get a life?

With the down down’s complete, the pack was declared “on the piss” and continued on with the celebration of Canada Day.
