Yummy Kippers (and Erections)

The Beginning

The annual Yummy Kippers run, is a tradition of the Calgary hash. Hardly and Twisty have organized this for a very long time. The run precedes the MisManagement Erections where the group refreshes the management team.

The run was set from Big Al’s Bar & Grill in the neighbourhood of Southview, which is very close to Forest Lawn. This neighbourhood has some history and is undergoing a level of gentrification. Bordering International Avenue, it is quite an eclectic part of town.

The group arrived in the parking lot on this warm evening. The sun was setting as a reminder that we are now in fall and the light in the evening is getting thin.

Insane Bolt called the circle to order, and the group formed something that sort of looked like a circle.

Insane Bolt went through the formalities with announcements and introduction, plus enjoying some yummy fish crackers .

With the munching complete, the hares were called into the circle to describe the marks for the run. The marks are special, as the shape of a fish is prominent.

The pack was released to find the marks, and to catch the last rays of sun as dusk was settling in.

The Run

Out of the parking lot, the pack headed south and found the marks indicating that they were on trail.

The refreshments were tasty and the group got busy enjoying the twilight evening outdoors.

A keen hasher observed that were were on Ash Crescent. One letter away from Hash Crescent. Insane Bolt decided this was something that needed to change.

Back to the bar, checking out the fancy features of the neighbourhood.

Back to the bar, the group settled in to ordering food and beer and prepared for the down downs and the Erections.

The Down Downs

As we attempted to get organized, beer was ordered and the beer wenches got busy getting things together. It was finally time to get the down downs started.

Hump the Shark was the Religious Advisor (RA) for the evening. He appointed the choir of Swollen Member and Rashy Bush.

The hares were called up for a down down. A fine trail with Yummy Kippurs for snacks.

PMS wanted to show off her matching fashion, so she was invited up for a fashion down down.

With the down downs done, it was time to move onto the next order of business, the Erections of the new MisManagement team for next year.

Erections

A difficult process as the mismanagers are a fickle bunch, who know the rules. Find your replacement of your are doing this for another year.

Insane Bolt ran the erections. A somber introspective exercise which delivered the slate of new MisManagement for 2026-2027 fiscal year.

The result of this exercise is that we have a fresh MisManagement team to lead the hash forward into the next year. Come out to find out what the new team looks like!

Trail Summary

A fine trail of close to 5 km through the wilds of Southview. So close to Dover and Forest Lawn and in the vibe of International Avenue. A fun time was had by both the runners and the walkers.

The Beginning

As we are now past labour day, who knows what the weather will be like. It could be summer or winter, sunny or raining, but the darkness is starting to appear near the end of the run.

Headlights start to become a thing at this time of year, so remember that. Hot Cheeks decided it time to introduce Swollen Member to the art of haring a run. These are skills that he can use in all aspects of his happy life.

After a bit of adjusting the start location, Local 403 Pub in Canyon Meadows SW was selected as the start location. Access to Fish Creek was important for the success of this run.

The group arrived at the pub and prepared for the fine trail that had been planned for them to follow.

It was time to head out to the parking lot circle up. A good turnout of over 20 hashers was encouraging to see.

Insane Bolt ran the circle and went through the announcements and introductions.

The hares were called into the circle to describe the marks.

The pack was released to find the trail.

The Trail

Leaving the parking lot, the pack spread out to find the marks for true trail. A few false trails were explored prior to finding the good marks. Apparently, some of the marks were a little thin from the recent rain, making finding the trail a bit more challenging.

After enjoying the refreshments and the munchies, the pack headed into the pub to prepare for the down down’s, and some sort of spinning wheel distraction.

The group settled into the pub and figured out that they could get a fantastic deal on a hamburger, with a full pint beer, and the opportunity to spin the wheel, and delay the start of the down downs.

Down Down’s

Eventually, the thrill of the spinning wheel was over. The patient Religious Advisor, Skewbic Hair, now had the attention of the group.

A choir of Tighty Whitey and Scissor Sister was chosen and the program began.

Tighty Whitey had to excuse himself from choir duties and Hardly was pressed into emergency choir service.

No volunteer RA for next week, so let’s down the RA and declare “on the piss”

With the down downs complete, the group was declared to be “on the piss”.

An adventurous trail of some 6 km was enjoyed by the pack. Fine trail set by the veteran Hot Cheeks and the new hare Swollen Member.

Labour Day Classic …. Who Knew?

The Beginning

Already Labour Day! Where has the summer gone? An afternoon run was offered by Booty Camp and Snow Blower to mark this special day. Of note, there is some sort of football game on Labour Day which is important to the football following hashers.

A brilliant bit or organization enabled the hashers and the football hashers to both be happy!

Timing was important. As such, a sharp 2:00 pm run start time was enforced. This might have created a small problem for the 2:05 arrivers, but that was all sorted.

A circle happened on the front lawn of the hosts house, and Camshaft went through the announcements and introductions.

The hare was called into the circle and the marks were described to the pack.

The pack was released to find the marks.

The Trail

The pack was rewarded with finding marks as they ventured off on the pathways. They are a couple of key bridges that come into play in the neighbourhood. Marks were present.

The walkers formed a line and played follow the leader as Booty Camp lead them to a secret rendez-vous.

A secret destination was revealed for the regroup. With the football game thing happening, there was a “tailgating” opportunity that was enjoyed by the group.

Post tailgating, the pack was released. Some hung around to go to the football game, while others set off to find the trail back to the start. There was a long trail and a short trail. Both ended up at the same place.
