Labour Day Classic …. Who Knew?

The Beginning

Already Labour Day! Where has the summer gone? An afternoon run was offered by Booty Camp and Snow Blower to mark this special day. Of note, there is some sort of football game on Labour Day which is important to the football following hashers.

A brilliant bit or organization enabled the hashers and the football hashers to both be happy!

Timing was important. As such, a sharp 2:00 pm run start time was enforced. This might have created a small problem for the 2:05 arrivers, but that was all sorted.

A circle happened on the front lawn of the hosts house, and Camshaft went through the announcements and introductions.

The hare was called into the circle and the marks were described to the pack.

The pack was released to find the marks.

The Trail

The pack was rewarded with finding marks as they ventured off on the pathways. They are a couple of key bridges that come into play in the neighbourhood. Marks were present.

The walkers formed a line and played follow the leader as Booty Camp lead them to a secret rendez-vous.

A secret destination was revealed for the regroup. With the football game thing happening, there was a “tailgating” opportunity that was enjoyed by the group.

Post tailgating, the pack was released. Some hung around to go to the football game, while others set off to find the trail back to the start. There was a long trail and a short trail. Both ended up at the same place.

After suitable refreshment, it was back to the house for indoor down down’s.

The group settled down waiting for the down down’s to begin.

Down Down’s

Insane Bolt was able to conduct the down down’s. He got prepared and the beverages were made ready.

Insane Bolt started by selecting a choir. The combined efforts of Princess Monkey Spanker and Abandoned Pussy were chosen to select the songs.

The down down’s started with the hares, followed by a selection of other offenders.

With the formal ceremonies complete, the group dispersed. Apparently there was some sort of fast loud airplane thing happening at the football game.

With the fun an frolic complete, the crowd dispersed to pay attention the the football game. This did not end well for the home team….

Trail Summary

A fine trail of close to 5 km was delivered to the hares. The distraction of the football game added to the enjoyment of the run.

A Labour of Love

The Beginning

Labour Day signals the end of summer. No more wearing white. It is also a big football day in Canada with Edmonton and Calgary teams inconveniently playing in the afternoon.

Booty Camp and Snow Blower have a great place for afternoon runs. With a great location and a fine backyard, no better place to start and finish trail on a hot summer afternoon.

The group found street parking and gathered in the backyard.

Time to run, so PMS called the circle to order and went through the program of announcements and introductions. Booty Camp and Snow Blower went through the marks. The pack was released to find true trail.

The Trail

Off into the Capitol Hill neighbourhood to find the marks. Looks like the trail ran through Confederation Park and meandered through the streets and alleys.

Playground action was enjoyed. Hashers were scaring off the small children from the vicinity.

Eventually, the regroup was discovered and a refreshment was enjoyed by the group.

After the regroup was completed, the pack migrated back to the Booty Blower Bodega backyard (B4) for down down’s.

The Down Down’s

The pack assembled in the back yard, getting ready for the entertaining program that was about to be delivered.

Abandoned Pussy was the Religious Advisor and likely a group choir.

Once the down down’s were over, there may have been some distractions in the neighbourhood with the football game shenanigans.

All done, the group was declared “on the piss”.

Apparently, they have this football thing on Labour Day in which the enemies from Edmonton come to visit the champions from Calgary. The Game ended as it should with the home team defeating the Edmonton squad.

Pacing for Pride

The Beginning

Labour Day and Pride celebration are an interesting combination. Calgary Pride Festival on the Saturday and Sunday. Labour Day hash run on the Monday afternoon. Wear your best colourful outfit!

Booty Camp and Snow Blower hosted the run from their posh residence in the Banff Trail neighbourhood. A collection of 23 hashers showed up on a hot afternoon. There were visitors and a new boot to add to the interest of the group. A conflicting football game later in the afternoon made it difficult for some of our football inclined members to make it all work. As well, others were doing the Labour Day weekend out of town thing.

People kept arriving, showing off there finest pride themed running attire.

A circle happened with introductions, the hares were brought into the circle to explain the marks, and the pack was released.

The Trail

The trail took in some of the finer trails in the Banff Trail and Capital Hill neighbourhoods. Some epic views were observed by both the runners and the walkers. Apparently, there was some fixation with fixed objects by the walkers.

There was an excessive amount of chalk used for some of the trail to ensure that no-one got excessive misdirected or lost.

The trail included some playground actions for those playful hashers.

Eventually the trail made it back to the start and the group went into down-down mode.

Down Downs

The Booty Blower backyard proved to be an excellent place for the closing ceremonies. People are looking happy and content.

Use your imagination to fill in the Religious Advisor performing the down down celebration. Likely the hares, new boots and visitors. I suspect a number of crimes were committed, but not many pictures to document the festivities. If there is some evidence, we can add it in here!
