Hashers spotted at Sandy Beach Park!

The Beginning

We were pleased that Shakesbeer volunteered to set trail on short notice. He selected Sandy Beach SW as a starting point. A surprising amount of wilderness and difficult trails are near by, plus the Elbow River!

The group assembled in the recently renovated parking lot and prepared for the circle to be called. Apparently there were some pre run novelties in the form of Jello and something in a small cup.

There was a small selection of hashers that were late to the circle. Apparently an unexpected power failure meant access denied to her car. A rescue mission was initiated. As such, early picture taking of the circle was handled by Dastardly.

With the circle called, the group assembled in something that looked like a circle.

A bit of a tilt, but Camshaft held his ground

A flurry of activity as the late group arrived to join the circle after rescuing a stranded hasher.

After the interruption subsided, the hare was called into the circle to describe the marks for the trail.

With the marks describe, the pack was released to find the trail.

The Trail

From the parking lot, the pack started looking for marks. There was some confusion as the which way was out, as perhaps the end of trail marks were found first.

All was sorted out eventually as the pack disappeared into the dense brush by the Elbow River.

The trail continued through dense brush with many trees across the pathway that required some climbing to get over.

Then the regroup was found and everyone was pleased.

Moving in to the parking lot

The lawn chairs came out and the group took over a portion of the parking lot.

Such a happy group patiently waiting for the down down’s to begin.

The Down Down’s

The beverages were prepared and the Religious Advisor, Strap On Crampon, prepared here program in here very small notebook.

With all the preliminaries done, it was show time. Strap On donned a ceremonial sarong and led the down down’s from the middle of the circle.

I am ready! Are you?

Strap On selected a choir of Dastardly, Lazy Cummer and Rashy Bush. A mostly sitting choir was revved up to sing themselves a song.

First off was the hare, who received a down down for setting a great trail.

The family that hashes together gets a down down together. Apparently Scissor Sister was associated with this group through salad discussions.

With the down down’s complete, we were declared to be “on the piss”

Immediately after Insane Bolt accepted a beer for the next RA, he remembered his schedule and had to immediately capitulate. Scoobie will pick it up for the next run.

Trail Summary

The epic trail ended up to be 7 km through the deepest recesses of Sandy Beach Park. Great views with interesting terrain. A fine effort by Shakesbeer!

Remembering Whale Wanker!

The Beginning

With the recent passing of our veteran Calgary Hash House Harrier, Whale Wanker (Tom Wheeler), a tribute run was proposed to coincide with his birthday.

King Shit and On In volunteered to set trail starting from a known location on Kensington Road, Pizza Bob’s. The neighbourhood has hosted many hash runs in the past and was close to Whale Wanker’s was living.

A significant turn out of hashers arrived at Pizza Bob’s and the parking lot filled up with runners (and walkers).

This would be Pizza Bob’s

Once parking was sorted out, the group got larger as more hashers arrived.

Hashers gathering

The group was invited to circle up by Camshaft, who went through the announcements and introductions.

With the description complete, the pack was released to find the trail.

The Trail

Out of the parking lot heading west. Need to find the narrow passageway to the back alley to be on trail. Marks were found that indicated the true trail.

This playing is tiring

Back to the pub, the pack settled in for the down down’s.

The Down Down’s

Camshaft was the Religious Advisor for the evening. The beverages were assembled and it was time to start the program.

The RA announced the choir will be PMS and Strap On Crampon. With great joy and glee, the came out to the front and sang themselves a suitable song.

With the program complete, it was time to find a volunteer for next week’s RA. Thankfully, Strap On said she was IN.

Surprisingly Uphill!

The Beginning

We were pleased when Mr. PeeeeeNut volunteered to set trail. He chose an obscure starting point referred to as the Silver Springs Boardwalk. With exacting precision, google maps pointed to a parking lot with limited spaces.

The pack arrived and Dastardly was prepared with Jello shots. The weather was good and a good number of hashers showed up.

The group started to form something like an elongated oval that could pass for a stretchy circle.

Camshaft called the circle to order and went through the announcements and introductions.

The hare was called into the circle to describe the marks.

With the marks described, the pack was released to find the marks for the true trail.

The Trail

Off to the north along the sidewalks, until we found the key marks that directed us into the dirt trails in the ravine.

Through the pathways and parks, eventually the trail arrived at the regroup vehicle.

The hashers enjoyed the refreshments available from the regroup vehicle.

A short walk back to the start and the group prepared for outdoor down down’s.

Very important task – filling up the half yard!

Down Down’s

With the beverages prepared, it was time for Twisty to do the Religious Advisor duties.

Twisty started by choosing the choir. King Shit and Shakesbeer were selected and sang themselves a song.

Choir ready to go!

And then it was time for the milestone award. Camshaft has completed 400 run and gets to hold on to a lovely large trophy until the next hasher makes the mark. A half yard of beer is a suitable recognition.

To finish off, it was time to convince someone to be the RA for next week. With his half yard done, Camshaft was receptive and said he would do it.

Down down for the RA’s. this week and next week!

RA’s sorted – down down and on the piss!

With the down down’s complete, the group packed up and headed over to a nearby establishment for further debriefing.

What a happy bunch!

All’s well that ends well.

RA: Hump the Shark

Attendance: 20

The Beginning

We were pleased that Pyro stepped up the hare another trail in August. Starting from the parking lot of the 12 Mile Coolee Natural Area, providing great access to the hills and pathways close by.

The evening of the run was cool and smokey. A group of intrepid hashers showed up for the entertainment that Pyro had prepared.

The pack found a place to park and mingled before the circle was called.

A cluster of hashers – aggregated by AI

Looks like Hardly ran the circle and went through the announcements and introductions. Mr. PeeeeeNut tried to be in all the hasher photo’s, using his best photobombing tactics. AI fixed that problem…..

Hardly invited the hare into the circle to describe the marks for the trail.

With the marks described, the pack was released to find the trail.

The Trail

The trail started off to the east, across Stoney Trail in the the Scenic Acres neighbourhood. Following trail, sidewalks and streets the trail unfolded.

The regroup vehicle was found and there was much rejoicing.

Eventually, things were organized enough to have the down down’s.

The Down Down’s

According to last weeks notes, Lazy Cummer was intended to be the Religious Advisor. However, it appears that Hump the Shark ran the program. I am sure that Lazy Cummer will have his chance in the future.

Hump the Shark imagined the crimes, stories and offences that deserved a down down. Starting with the hare, who , once again, set a fine trail for the hash to follow!

A series of infractions and observations were duly rewarded with down down’s.

With the down down’s completed, the pack continued to socialize and perhaps head to the Last Straw Ale House for a debrief.

Run 2474 – AP Sets Trail

Hares: Abandoned Pussy

Fish Creek Shoe Wash

The Beginning

You know you will have an entertaining trail with Abandoned Pussy as the Hare. She knows the intricacies of the pathway network in Fish Creek and knows what hashers like.

Voltier’s Flats at the foot of Elbow Drive was the starting location. In addition they have picnic areas suitable for the down down cerimonies.

The group arrived to find parking and prepare for the run. The weather was good and we had some out of town visitors.

Apparently the scribe and Religious Advisor were late to the circle, so he had to rely on the kindness of others for the photos of the opening circle.

Picture this full of hashers – the down down location dream

Someone went through the introductions and announcements prior to calling the hare into the circle.

These are the marks

AP was called into the circle and explained the marks to the pack. With all explained, the pack was released to find the trail.

The Trail

The pack followed marks up hill to the neighbourhood of Canyon Meadows. Obviously, some uphill elevation gain to enjoy the pathways that await at the top of the hill.

How much fun is this?
See…. there were marks
LL and Lazy Cummer

The pack found the regroup vehicle and decided, much to chagrin of the hare, that down down’s would not be at the picnic tables, but rather in the parking lot. Apparently the exertion of moving the cooler was overwhelming for some.

Parking lot down down’s

The group sorted out their chairs and beverages, and relaxed in anticipation of the start of the down down’s.

Best trail ever says AP

Why are we waiting? Apparently a couple of Harriettes were missing. Choosing to avoid the creek crossing, a long and convoluted route back to the start was required. So both Boob Check and Ure-in-Trouble were DFL, causing a delay in the starting of the down down’s.

With the group assembled, it was time for the down down’s to commence.

Down Down’s

Skewbic Hair was the Religious Advisor for the evening. Arriving late to the circle, he ad to catch up to the pack and rely on other for some tales.

With the beverages prepared by the beer meister, time to get this show on the road.

Skewbic Hair ready to go!

Firstly, a choir was selected. Sticky Lips and Shakesbeer were delighted to be selected and sang themselves a song.

Choir – Sticky Lips and Shakesbeer

Our antics attracted the interest of some unsuspecting mountain biking people. Have a beer and consider joining the group!

Then we had to controversial shunning of the down down location that the hare was expecting. A Hat Shit transfer opportunity from King Shit to On In.

Now, time to find an RA for next week. With some level of cajoling, Lazy Cummer is up to the task. As such, it was time to down down the RA and next weeks RA.

Down down for the RA, this week and next!

With all done, the pack was declared “on the piss”. A nice evening to hand around and continue to enjoy the parkin lot ambiance.
