Hashers spotted at Sandy Beach Park!

The Beginning

We were pleased that Shakesbeer volunteered to set trail on short notice. He selected Sandy Beach SW as a starting point. A surprising amount of wilderness and difficult trails are near by, plus the Elbow River!

The group assembled in the recently renovated parking lot and prepared for the circle to be called. Apparently there were some pre run novelties in the form of Jello and something in a small cup.

There was a small selection of hashers that were late to the circle. Apparently an unexpected power failure meant access denied to her car. A rescue mission was initiated. As such, early picture taking of the circle was handled by Dastardly.

With the circle called, the group assembled in something that looked like a circle.

A bit of a tilt, but Camshaft held his ground

A flurry of activity as the late group arrived to join the circle after rescuing a stranded hasher.

Scoobie arriving late from a rescue mission

After the interruption subsided, the hare was called into the circle to describe the marks for the trail.

With the marks describe, the pack was released to find the trail.

The Trail

From the parking lot, the pack started looking for marks. There was some confusion as the which way was out, as perhaps the end of trail marks were found first.

All was sorted out eventually as the pack disappeared into the dense brush by the Elbow River.

The trail continued through dense brush with many trees across the pathway that required some climbing to get over.

Then the regroup was found and everyone was pleased.

Moving in to the parking lot

The lawn chairs came out and the group took over a portion of the parking lot.

Such a happy group patiently waiting for the down down’s to begin.

The Down Down’s

The beverages were prepared and the Religious Advisor, Strap On Crampon, prepared here program in here very small notebook.

With all the preliminaries done, it was show time. Strap On donned a ceremonial sarong and led the down down’s from the middle of the circle.

I am ready! Are you?

Strap On selected a choir of Dastardly, Lazy Cummer and Rashy Bush. A mostly sitting choir was revved up to sing themselves a song.

First off was the hare, who received a down down for setting a great trail.

The family that hashes together gets a down down together. Apparently Scissor Sister was associated with this group through salad discussions.

With the down down’s complete, we were declared to be “on the piss”

Immediately after Insane Bolt accepted a beer for the next RA, he remembered his schedule and had to immediately capitulate. Scoobie will pick it up for the next run.

Trail Summary

The epic trail ended up to be 7 km through the deepest recesses of Sandy Beach Park. Great views with interesting terrain. A fine effort by Shakesbeer!

Sunset Is A Thing!

The Beginning

As the summer is now done, finding hares for the fall is equally as challenging. With the current mismanagement counting the remaining number of runs they are responsible for setting, Insane Bolt, our illustrious Hashmaster, felt compelled to volunteer to set trail.

Significant in hash numerology, the run was set for September 22 and coincidentally was Run 2422 . You would think that all would have double 22’s present! Sadly, this numbers fact was not adequately communicated to the pack yet 4 intrepid hashers were decked out in their 22 finery.

He selected a new venue in Bowness NW, Brewsmith Brewing Company, as the run start location. With this start point, we had ample new terrain to explore.

The group starting arriving and got set up in the pub prior to the run start. Some of us who were fashionably late, missed this part of the warm up to the run. Nevertheless, we joined the pack as they were relocating to the designated circle up location.

PMS identified the centre of the circle, and the pack figured it our from there.

A reasonable turnout of 23 hashers in remarkable warm weather was a good sign. Unfortunately, the length of the day is getting shorter. Start in the light, finish in the dark. Headlights are something we need to remember to bring! With the Jell-O shorts completed, it was time to get organized.

PMS went through the introductions and announcements. Special run for both Mucky Dip and Hump the Shark. Regular visitors from BC, Pull My Woody and Sticky Lips.

Eventually, it was time to bring the hares into the circle to describe the marks for tonight’s trail.

The marks described, the pack was released to find the marks of the true trail.

The Trail

With the daylight diminishing, the pack headed out along the wide sidewalks of Bowness Road NW.

After much up and down through the forest trail, we came upon a new neighbourhood with a park! Let the play time begin.

From the park, it was a series of pathways which lead down toward Canada Olympic Park, including some sunset viewpoints.

Up to the top of the hill, we had to navigate through the commercial businesses leading to the true trail.

Down the hill and through the streets looking for marks. We knew that we had to get over the tracks to make it back to the pub. This provided a great opportunity for train spotting!

Eventually, the train passes and we looked for marks. We found out that Insane Bolt set this portion of the trail and had many check backs in close proximity to the regroup. False trails near the end are demoralizing.

Finally, the regroup vehicle was spotted and we could celebrate the finish of a fine run.

With the regroup done, it was back to the pub to do the down down’s inside.

The group figured out the beer and food options and awaited for the down down’s to begin.

The Down Down’s

Hump the Shark has finally figured out how to get a volunteer to be the Religious Advisor. In the previous week, he had offered up a “free beer” for a volunteer for next week. Foolishly, Skewbic Hair succumbed to the offer last week and was reminded that he was RA for this week.

With work to do, Skewbic Hair handed off his paparazzi duties to Shakesbeer and got busy with putting together a program.

Do not let the truth get in the way a good story. A number of offences and crimes were invented and the program was ready. A choir of Sticky Lips and OPP were volunteered and we were ready to go!

With all the down down’s completed, the pack was declared “on the piss”.

A fine evening with a great trail from a new venue that appears to be Hash friendly!

The Trail

A fine effort of something like 8 – 9 kms. New terrain with new challenges. Thanks to Pyro and Insane Bolt for making this happen.

Run 2421 – Menage-a-Quatre

View Point of the City!

The Beginning

We have been having trouble finding people to set runs. We have openings in the future that need to be filled. As of last week, this run did not have a hare. Thankfully, Hot Cheeks succumbed to run setting frequency guilt and volunteered to set trail. She managed to conscript Menage-a-Trois to not only help, but to host the venue.

The pack arrived to Menage’s leafy neighbourhood and found a parking place. A good turnout of close to 30 hashers was a good sign. We had to follow the marks to the back yard which was our assembly point.

Still daylight at the beginning, we pack mingled in the back yard in anticipation of the run start.

PMS called to pack to circle up in the front yard. The pack complied and a circle formed on the front yard.

PMS ran the circle and went through the announcements and introductions.

The hares were called into the circle to describe the marks. With much enthusiasm, the hares described the trail they had planned for us!

With the instructions done, we were released to find the trail markings.

The Trail

The pack spread out to find the marks. After some well placed check backs, the true trail was revealed.

Following marks we made it back to the regroup, which happened to be at the same place we started. We set up chairs and enjoyed refreshment in the backyard.

As the beverages were prepared, the activities progressed to the down down’s.

Down Down’s

Hump the Shark performed the role of Religious Advisor. Dastardly did a fine job of organizing the refreshments.

Hump the Shark chose a choir. Lazy Cummer and Strap On Crampon were selected to deliver the songs to match the crimes.

With the down down’s all done, we were declared “on the piss” after the RA received a down down.

Trail Summary

A fine trail through the neighbourhoods of Upper Mount Royal, Lower Mount Royal and Cliff Bungalow. Close to 5 km’s of trail were enjoyed.

Run 2362 – Lofty Ambitions by Lof-T Prancer

Darkness is coming soon!

The Beginning

Lof-T Prancer volunteered to set trail. The start point was is the Charleswood neighbourhood in the NW. A busy place with many outdoor activities all happening at the same time.

One key feature of the run start location is that the city picnic tables were tagged as alcohol friendly!

As the group arrived, the challenge of finding parking has to be overcome in this residential area.

The hashers wandered in and a respectable turn out was achieved. An observation about the length of the day decreasing as we head to fall. Start the run in the light, finish in the twilight.

Booty Camp and Snow Blower
Veggie Wanker, Liquor Lots and Strap On Cramp On

On In got the circle organized. We went through the announcement, and noted that Erections are coming up in a couple of weeks. We need you for mismanagement! Talk to On In or PMS to volunteer.

Lof-T was called into the circle to describe the marks he had chosen for the evening run. Lots of blue chalk. H’s in various sizes ranging from microscopic to enormous! Some placed low, while others were placed very high! No flagging this time.

Lof-T directed the runners up the hill to the south, and the pack was released.

The Trail

The trail started out on the pathways until a check at a street crossing. The pack dispersed to find the false trails that had been cunningly set by Lof-T. Eventually, more marks were found and the pack was good.

Multiple live hares on trail

Parks and views were promised, and we were not disappointed.

The city is getting closer
Reminder that the full moon is coming up!

After navigating the small markings in the forest, we stumbled upon the end of the run and got set up before it was total darkness.

Regroup and Down Down’s

It was a bring your own chair type of evening. A closing circle formed so that we could enjoy our refreshments and snacks.

Hump the Shark assumed the RA duties and appointed Booty Camp and Snow Blower as choir. As darkness was now a thing, the taking pictures thing became more difficult. Everyone moves much faster in the dark!

Hump the Shark went down his extensive list of crimes, misdemeanors and made up stuff.

Our Hashmaster was so excited to get the run started, he neglected to go around the circle as the beginning so we could call out our names. We did it late and in the dark. On In will never forget!

On In post down down

Lof-T set a fine trail and was rewarded with a suitable song. He should set trail more often as his neighbourhood is rich with features, pathways, and viewpoints!

Lot-T the hare

On with the program. Usual stuff with many offences and things that warranted a down down.

Unfinished business from last week was the half yard ceremony for Hump the Shark for realizing 300 runs. This week, the vessel was present and filled with suitable refreshment. Hump has been practicing for years to do this well!

With the down down’s now complete, we were declared “on the piss”

Scribed by Skewbic Hair, who surprisingly was present for the run.

Trail Summary

Over 6 km through the wilds of the Triwood neighbourhood. Charleswood, Brentwood and Collingwood!
