No Beer Gets Left Behind

The Beginning

We were pleased when Slippy Thong volunteered to set trail in the “Beer Mile” format. Essentially, you run in circles and consume a beer at regular interval. How very Hash Friendly!

Coincidently, the pond that adorns the back yard of Slippy’ s palace is exactly 1.6 km (one mile to those that speak the other dialect). The game was on! Run as many laps as you chose, and receive a beer for each lap!

There are some niggling rules for the true Beer Mile cult. Some of which include:

A beer mile is a race where competitors drink four 12-ounce beers and run four 400-meter laps around a standard running track in alternating order.

The Basic Format

  • Structure: Drink a beer, run a lap, drink a beer, run a lap, drink a beer, run a lap, drink a beer, run a lap, and finish.
  • Distance: Four laps on a standard 400-meter track equal one full mile.
  • Equality: Both men and women must consume four beers and run four laps.

The Hash used their interpretation of these guidelines to run as many “one mile” laps as they chose.

Nevertheless, it was a fun format that Slippy Thong set up for the hash to enjoy.

The starting point was her backyard. Parking, as usual, was a challenge given the high density of the neighbourhood and the limited number of visitor spots.

The hash can be a smart bunch when challenged, so they were able to overcome the parking challenge.

A nice evening to start. This sunset shorty after 7:00 pm, the veil of twilight quickly enveloped the run with some nice sunset of offset the impending darkness.

The group assembled and prepared for the run. Slippy Thong had prepared many yummy snacks for the participants where were greatly appreciated!

Snacks galore

There was much relaxing and chatting prior to the run as the pack enjoyed the end of the daylight.

It was time to circle up. Insane Bolt gave the instruction to form something like a circle along the pathway behind Slippy’s place.

Insane Bolt ran through the announcements and introductions.

The hares were was called into the circle to go over the rules and marks for the run.

After some discussion and confusion, the group had to decide which direction to run the circle.

Confusing marks…KLAW or WALK?

The group started with a refreshment and then took off to follow the circle.

The Trail

The group found their own pace. The runners ran fast and the walkers walked. If you wanted distance, choose multiple laps! Walkers figured out that a lap or two were sufficient.

Slippy was very creative with signage. Over and above the normal inspirational marks!

A few pictures were taken in the diminishing sunlight as the twilight took over the balance of the evening.

Eventually, the run was over. Those who wanted distance ran more than the walkers. A fine trail which was well executed by Slippy Thong.

We then congregated in the back yard and prepared for the down downs.

Apparently, Strap On Crampon was concerned about being “called out” for having new shoes. As you can see from the circle picture, these shoes look factory fresh.

Do these look like new shoes?

This fear provoked some strange behavior in an attempt to scuff up these look like new shoes…..

With all the runners accounted for, it was time to move into the down downs/

The Down Downs

Tighty Whitey was the Religious Advisor for the evening. He had a program which he put together mostly from his own thoughts and imagination.

A temporary choir of Skewbic Hair was called into service, until the real choir (Hardly) showed up.

First to the hare, Slippy Thong for putting on this fun event. I am sure that many personal bests were achieved.

Some major misdemeanor, was it walking counter clockwise?
RA duties complete, and a volunteer for next week!

The group was pleased to be done the down downs so they could focus on important tasks.

Trail Summary

Multiples of one mile were achieved by those hashers that followed the assigned route. A great trail well marked.
