Christmas Lights Everywhere!

The Beginning

With Christmas fast approaching, time to sneak in another hash run before the big day. Thankfully Abandoned Pussy and Strap On Crampon volunteered to set trail on a frigid evening in December, and one of the shortest days of the year.

They selected the neighbourhood of Fairview SE to set trail, and selected the fashionable Stonegate Pub as the starting location. This may become a new Hash favourite sporting $5.00 pints and chicken wing specials on Monday nights! Tucked away in a non-descript 1950’s strip mall, adjacent to the bowling alley, a hidden gem in the neighbourhood!

It was a cold evening, with temperatures in the -20 C range + wind chill. The heating system repair truck and the guys on the roof may have been a signal of the heating problem in the pub.

Not to be discouraged, we were fine with our full on winter costume in anticipation of the cold temperatures. Tu Tu’s were present.

The hashers were outfitted with the right gear to survive the run. Pre circle pictures show off some of the weather protection choices.

The stand in Hashmaster, Skewbic Hair, called the group outside to circle up!

It was time for the hares to come into the circle to describe the marks they have set for a fine trail.

With the marks described, the pack was released to find the true trail.

The Trail

From the front of the pub, we headed off into the dark of the evening until true trail was found. Marks on the lamp posts lead the way into the depths of the Fairview neighbourhood.

Like a mirage on the horizon, the regroup vehicle was spotted. A fine selection of hot chocolate and unfrozen beer.

A short walk away, the pub as found and we went inside to warm up!

It was nice to be inside in the warmth preparing for the down down’s.

The Down Down’s

Booty Camp with assistance from Twisty were our Religious Advisor team. They prepared the program and secured refreshments for the down down’s.

Hardly volunteered to be the Christmas themed choir, digging up the song sheets with the sacred verses.

We had so much fun setting the trail for you all to enjoy! Lots of chalk used. Don’t follow the pink chalk as those are check backs (Who knew?)

With the down down’s completed, Booty Camp declared us “on the piss”. The group continued to enjoy the mirth and merriment of the Stonegate Pub until it was time to head home.

The Trail

A find trail of almost 5 km was enjoyed by the pack. Excellent trail setting by AP and Strap On Crampon. The playgrounds were fun and no-one died.

Run 2338 – Tu Tu Invasion of Haultain Park SW – Earth Day and Dogs!

The Beginning

Was it a coincidence that April 22, 2024 was the date of our tutu run? As well, some people celebrate Earth Day in a peculiar fashion. As our hares are dog friendly, who know that the on-in would be at the only dog themed taproom, conveniently located near the run start location.

Tutu’s were in abundance. Some matching colours, and even ones that light up! The number of tutu’s increases each time we have a run on the 22 of a month. The circle formed near the playground area of Haultain Park SW.

A strong group of over 30 hashers showed up. We had two hashers that were running for their second time! Just Ernie and Just Angelica. This is a good sign when they come back to the group. A happy crown of people and dogs assembled waiting for the introduction of the plan for a fine evening run.

PMS called the circle to order and the hares introduced the trail to the group.

The pack was released to navigate through the beltline area, obeying all traffic signals they encountered.

The Trail

We started with urban orienteering. Trying to find and follow the marks and not get too lost. Eventually, we ending up mountain climbing.

Uphill to Mount Royal was rewarded with some nice views.

Some reckless playing was observed at a park. Tried not to scare away the locals.

After the play break, it was off to find the regroup chariot parked near the Alberta Ballet office, as a tribute to the tutu outfits.

Suitable refreshment was found and consumed.

The On In

Who knew there was a dog friendly tap room that named their beer after dogs. A dog person must have found this out. However, the venue was good for the group and were assembled in Four Dogs Brewing Company for the comradery and the down downs..

The Down Down’s

Hump the Shark managed to delegate the Religious Advisor role to Insane Bolt. As he had to deal with a challenging group of locals, hashers and dogs, he put in a fine effort to get the job done! Questionable choir choice of PMS and Skewbic Hair, as they never agree on anything, nevertheless what song to sing.

Crimes, accusations, stories, and a couple of mis-truths made up a bulk of the down downs. A fine job by Insane Bolt demonstrating his ability to manage the unruly crowd.

Finally, after much celebration, Insane declared the evening to be “on the piss”.

Run 2324 – Pyro Saves the Hash – Tu Tu Run

The Beginning

Thankfully, Pyro has recovered sufficiently from some health issues to enable him to continue down the road to recovery to setting the hash trail. We are thankful that Pyro, once again, for saving the Hash from obliteration by stepping up and volunteering to set trail. A good role model for those with an interest in setting trail.

And what it trail it was! Tu Tu’s were present in abundance to acknowledge that this run was happing on a 22 day of the month. Take notice that another Tu Tu run appears in April 2024. Get your Tu Tu’s in order!

The group assembled in the Silver Point Pub & Eatery in Sliver Springs NW. Warm inside and not too busy. A fine location to host the Hash!

The circle was called and hashers assembled outside . On-In lead the circle and went through the formalities of getting things ready. Hash enthusiasm was high anticipating another epic Pyro run.

Pyro was called into the circle to explain the marks. Fairly standard markings with “H” being “on trail”, circle is a “check”, X in a circle is a check “back”.

The Trail

With the pack released, off we go through the wilds of Silver Springs NW. A neighbourhood with many views, vista’s and ravines. Surprisingly, there is also some elevation change as we headed north. Nose Hill comes to mind. Nevertheless, full use of markings on the lamp posts and sidewalks as we continued on our road to discovery of the true trail.

Through the neighbourhood, some features were observed. Apparently it is common the convert your front yard into an ice sheet. I suppose your could make your own ice cubes if your refrigerator can’t do that job. Views of the Ski Hill were extraordinary. With the right gear, you could venture down the hill, across the river, and go for a ski!

The terrain offered a variety of both downhill and uphill. It seemed that the uphill sections were long and hard. As the hare had chosen a counter clockwise direction, the uphill near the end encouraged us to find the regroup.

Regroup

Like a beacon of light, the parking lot with the regroup vehicle were eventually found. The beverages were offered at the perfect consumption temperature. No beer slushy was observed. Much mirth and merriment ensued until it was time to head back to the bar for the next facet of our adventure.

The Finish

The hashers were happy to come in from the cold and enjoy the hospitality that the Silver Point had for the group. We added to their number of happy patrons that evening. People figured out where to sit, what to eat and what to drink.

There was evidence of exemplary beer pouring with just the right amount of head.

Down Downs

Apparently Daisy Duke, with help from Lazy Cummer, were appointed to run the down down’s. They spent a considerable amount of time making up stories, lies, and other citations for those they hand singled out in the group for special treatment. First order of business was to select the choir!
