A Bridge to Cross!

The Beginning

The end of June is a special time for our teacher folks. It means they do not have to teach until the fall. Some say it sounds like the beginning of a summer vacation!

Our hares were Princess Monkey Spanker, Hot Cheeks and Abandoned Pussy. These folks have a hand in educating our children. With the end of the school year, the teachers like to let off steam. As such, they have planned a challenging trail from a starting point within sight of the Douglas Fir Trail.

Apparently, setting the trail on Sunday involved some time in the rain. We were warned the the trail might be muddy and that dry shoes and socks for the end of the wet trail.

Looks like clean shoes!

The pack gathered in the parking lot near JJ’s Neighbourhood Pub in Spruce Cliff SW. Disappointed that it was not pouring rain like the day before. There was much rejoicing! The hares had plan for the group to make this an epic trail, and perhaps a epi-pen trail?

Eventually, it was time to circle up in the parking lot. The group formed some type of a circle with Camshaft running the circle.

The Teechers were called into the circle to educate the pack on the crazy marks they had chosen for the trail. Some say they should get and “F” for messing up the traditional markings. The pack can be slow to learn.

With a sign, the pack was released to find the marks on trail.

The Trail

The pack struggled to find the true trail.

Apparently, there was a regroup with delicious refreshments. There is evidence that Insane Bolt finished DFL, an unusual position for him.

So much fun was had at the regroup that images were in short supply. The pack headed over the the patio at JJ’s to have the down down’s.

Down Down’s

Thankfully, Insane Bolt volunteered to be the Religious Advisor (RA) for the evening. He planned his material for the amusement of the waiting hashers.

After some waiting due to a Mojito delivery emergency, the down down’s were ready to go. A choir of Dastardly and Hardly were selected, and chose to find unusual songs for their performance.

The hares were first, followed by a selection of other offences, The song of STINGY TRAIL related to the abundance of mosquito’s, wasps, bees and other dangerous insects.

New Boots – Just Ferica and Just Monireh
Karate Klit – Bashing without hashing

The group was declared on the piss and continued to socialize and enjoy JJ’s patio and hospitality.

Trail Summary

A great trail of some 6 km was thoroughly enjoyed by the runners. It was appreciated that it was not dumping rain and that the muddy trail was good! Bring your epi-pen next time.

How Much Fun Is This?

The Beginning

It is always an adventure when Liquor Lots and OPP volunteer to set trail. They chose Edworthy Park, south of the Bow River for the start point. This site provides access to much interesting terrain along the banks of the Bow River.

The Douglas Fir Trail is close by as well as the rugged slopes, train tracks, river, neighbourhoods and pathways nearby.

The steep access road was entertaining. Parking was at a premium at the bottom of the hill. Some hashers chose to cycle to the start. It was a busy place.

The pack arrived and congregated at a spot to enjoy yummy popsicles. It took some time for the group to show up on this hot day. We mingled around prior to be called over to where the circle would form.

Eventually, we were called to make a proper circle in a quiet location near be base of the beckoning trails. Liquor Lots got Insane Bolt to get things going.

Insane Bolt went through the announcements, visitors, and introductions. We had visitors for Toronto and Nigeria!

The hares were called into the circle to describe the marks they had used for the trail.

The pack was released and headed off in many directions to try and find the true trail.

The Trail

There were many false trail found in the early stages. The hares had set some cheeky check backs up the hills, to be found by our speedy and intrepid hashers.

You needed good vision to make out this check back buried in the dense brush, but it was significant.

Eventually, the pack landed on the trail that got them pointed in the right direction. The Douglas Fir trail was waiting!

A challenging route with significant climbing and an abundance of mud and obstacles.

Eventually, the path returned back to the parking lot. We selected a picnic spot to set up the circle for outdoor down down’s. A fine warm evening activity.

The Down Down’s

With a cooler of refreshments and a suitable picnic spot, the group settled down into a circle to enjoy their refreshments.

Insane Bolt assembled his material as Religious Advisor and picked a choir of Sticky Lips and Dastardly.

With all the down down’s completed, it was time to declare the group “on the piss”. The pack hung around in the nice weathers and continued to socialize until dark.
