Good to the last drop

The Beginning

We were pleased that we had volunteers to hare this run. A time to Celebrate with the clocks moving forward one hour. This means that we actually start the run “in the light”, though finish in the twilight/dark. This will continue to improve each week!

The starting location was Veranda at The Stables in the Garrison Green neighbourhood. This location promotes both Burwood Distillery and Vacay Brew Co. products. How convenient for the hash. Apparently, Vacay Brewing has a new location with a taproom in Marda Loop which is not yet opened. Stay tuned!

Finding parking and figuring out which door was the right one was somewhat confusing. However, being a smart bunch we figured it out and made our way inside.

Booty Camp leads the way to “this door”

Inside, we were directed to a section where we would congregate after the run was completed.

After sufficient milling about, we were instructed to go outside and form a circle in the parking lot to the west.

Hashers tormenting the photographer by feigning happiness

A good turn out, likely motivated by the daylight and the surprise snowstorm from the previous day.

Camshaft ran the circle and went through the announcements and introductions. We had a visitor for Los Angeles, Grandma’s Cookie.

The hares were called into the circle to describe the marks for the run.

Here they are. The marks defining the trail!

With the instructions complete, the pack was released to find the marks for true trail.

The Trail

Off from the parking lot, the pack spread out to seek out the marks.

From the regroup it was back to the Veranda at The Stables to prepare for the down down’s.

The group settled in and waited patiently for the down down’s to begin.

The Down Down’s

Mr. PeeeeeNut volunteered to be the Religious Advisor (RA) at the previous run. As such, he had spent the week getting mentally prepared for the task.

The beverages were procured and prepared for some of the special awards this evening. In particular, we had two milestone awards involving a half yard vessel of refreshment.

Much car was taken to get the half yards loaded and ready to go.

With the preparations complete, it was time for Mr. PeeeeeNut to conduct the ceremony.

Mr. PeeeeeNut ready to go!

A choir was selected of Roaring Nancy and Booty Camp. They were recognized by singing themselves a suitable song.

Mr. PeeeNut went through his list of crimes, accusations and stories, starting with the hares.

The high point of the down down’s was the acknowledgement of 1600 runs, achieved by Hardly and Twisty. A monumental event worth acknowledging.

A fine display of half yard handling!

Subsequent down down’s included our visitor for Los Angeles, Grandma’s Cookie, who has come to visit. Important to ensure that the visitors are welcomed appropriately!

With the down down’s complete, we were declared “on the piss”

Mr. PeeeeeNut wrapped things up and we were declared “on the piss”. The group then settled down and enjoyed the company and the ambiance of the Veranda.

Trail Summary

A great trail of 5-6 km was delivered for the enjoyment of the group. Great job by Liquor Lots, Lazy Cummer and OPP in setting this up.

Bridge over the Elbow River

The Beginning

The high level of enthusiasm for the hash continues as the weather gets colder. However, having hares step forward to set trails has been challenging lately. We are very thankful that Lazy Cummer and OPP who magnanimously volunteered to set this trail. Starting from the Trop Bar and Grill in Marda Loop, the gateway to the challenges of nearby River Park and the toney neighbourhoods with hills and trees.

Traffic issues in Marda Loop have been somewhat resolved. The construction nightmare of the past years is substantially history. Good news is that 33 Ave SW is done. Bad news is that 34 Ave SW is now under construction. The Trop is on 34 Ave.

Once we sorted out the where to park, we came into the Trop to join the major crowd that was there to watch some sort of baseball game. Nevertheless, we packed into our reserved section and got ready to relocate outside to the cold and dark to start the run.

Once inside, we had a full house to content with. Appreciated that we had tables set aside for us.

Our hashmaster, Camshaft, informed the group that it was time to go “outside” and form a circle.

Camshaft went through the announcements and introductions. The hares were called into the circle to describe the marks they had selected for the trail!

Lazy Cummer pointed to the “do not enter” sign in the alley, and the pack was released.

The Trail

Down the alley we went, heading south. If we keep going this way, we will end up in the darkness of River Park.

Through the neighbourhoods of Elbow Park until we found the regroup.

With much milling about enjoying suitable beverages, it was decided to do “outside” down downs … at the regroup. This choice avoids problems with the baseball crowd at the pub.

The Down Down’s

Hump the Shark was the religious advisor (RA). He prepared his program on the spot. He called the group to order, selected a choir of Walk Wanker and Lying Sack of Shit, and began the ceremony.

The hares were called into the circle and rewarded for a fine trail.

We acknowledged our visitors from New Zealand and Edmonton.

A number of crimes and offences were acknowledged.

With all the crimes dealt with, the group was declared on the piss by the RA.

Back to the bar for the continuance of the good times. Our arrival time corresponded with some event in the game where the home team went ahead! I trust our group was instrumental in the win.

Run 2414 – August Long Weekend Run

The River runs High!

The Beginning

August long weekend is a great time for a holiday or to be out of town. As such, finding a hare to volunteer to host this holiday afternoon event is sometimes a challenge. Thankfully, Liquor Lots succumbed to the pressure to host the run, and start/finish at her fancy house.

Keeping with the tradition of rain, rain and more rain, the trail was wet. I am sure that some folks are happy with the wet and soggy ground, but others are concerned that too much rain can be a problem. Not a problem if you like to harvest mushrooms on your front lawn, but some who live near the Elbow River remember the flood of 2013.

An afternoon run saw 12 intrepid hashers brave the wetness to show up for the run. Circle up in the backyard, waiting for the rain to pour down in earnest enjoying Jell-O shooters to mentally prepare for the run.

Looks the Hashmasters were not to be seen as On-In stepped up to run the circle. The group formed up in the alley behind the house and started to get ready for the afternoon trail.

After the pleasantries, On In called the hare into the circle to explain the marks.

With all the marks fully described, the pack was released to find the true trail.

The Trail

With the abundance of alleys, streets and pathways in the Erlton neighbourhood, the pack was afoot. Marks were called and the pack joined in following the marks to great viewpoints and interesting terrain.

Are we not the coolest?

More pathways and weather to contend with at the run progressed. The hash likes it wet, so this is a great thing!

Soo much fun with the harriette

And then it was done. The hash assembled in the rain protected garage shelter perfect for down down’s. It look like lots of chairs were present and the hash jammed in to the confined space for more fun and frolic.

Down Down’s

The pack set up and mingled in the shelter of the garage.

The pack got cozy in the garage anticipating a great finish from the Religious Advisor, Lying Sack of Shit.

Eventually, it was time to get the down down’s started. Lying Sack of Shit chose a choir and it was time to get rolling.

To the hares for setting a fantastic trail. No bitching about the light attendance or the shitty weather. Great sports and they are welcome to set trail many times in the future!

A parade of down down’s followed with most guilty of some offence or another misgiving.

Apparently, someone wore new shoes to the hash. You would think they would learn, but , at the discretion of the RA, swilling from your new shoes is appropriate. Lazy Cummer is much smarter now.

An epic afternoon run that was enjoyed by all that were there, Your scribe, Skewbic Hair, had to live vicariously through the pictures and notes he was provided the write this up in absentia.

Beach life in Grand Beach , MB is spectacular.

Trail Summary

A fine trail of some 6 km was enjoyed by the pack. The great neighbourhoods and interesting terrain made it very enjoyable. Great work by the hares!

Daylight Savings Time Ends Darkness!

The Beginning

The clocks have shifted and we now have more daylight in the evening. That hour of lost sleep is eventually forgotten and we bask in the glow of a starting circle in the light.

OPP and Lazy Cummer volunteered to set trail. A good turn out for a run in the Marda Loop neighbourhood was anticipating an interesting run.

The group assembled inside the Marda Loop Brewing Company, and were called out to form a circle in the back parking lot.

PMS lead the circle as the group got organized.

PMS went through the announcement and introductions, then called the hares to the circle to explain the marks for the trail.

PMS working the circle

With the marks described, the pack was released to find the trail.

The Trail

A few false trails were discovered as the pack got their bearings and found the true trail marks. Through the neighbourhood of Marda Loop and the mud and moisture from the recent snow, the trail revealed itself.

The scribe was in the walkers group due to skiing over exertion. The walkers had a fine time exploring the development and construction occurring in the this part of town!

My inside sources suggest that the runners had a fun time finding the trail, and playing in any parks they could find.

The walkers were able to find the regroup in the parking lot of the brewery. Apparently, the runners had a significant amount of trail to run, and were delayed in arriving for refreshments.

Regroup at dusk

Eventually, once darkness had fallen, the balance of the group appeared to regale us with their conquest of the epically long trail. This shot is indicative of the level of darkness when the balance of the pack arrived.

The dark side of the regroup

The group gathered on the patio of the Marda Loop Brewing Company to order beer and food prior to the down down’s.

Eventually, Booty Camp was ready for the down down ceremonies.

The Down Down’s

Religious Advisor Booty Camp took control of the down downs and appointed a choir of Roaring Nancy.

Booty Camp thanked the hares for setting trail and then proceeded to come forward with a series of lies, accusations and crimes committed during the run.

With the down down’s done, the group engaged in the chatting and socializing until it was time to leave.

Trail Summary

Some say this trail was 9 km when all done. Not sure how the sidewalk marks made it through the surprise snowfall.

The walkers were more straightforward with a big loop of close to 4 km.
