Art or Streetlighting?

The Beginning

Hot Cheeks and Snevil volunteered to set trail for this fine April date. Now that we have daylight throughout the run, we can focus on making the trail longer and harder!

Apparently, the Dirty Duck Pub in Inglewood SE was the back up plan. Plan A was for a pub near Mount Royal, but declined to host a big group, so Dirty Duck it was!

Dirty Duck Pub in Inglewood SE

The group arrived once they figured out where to park, and huddled in the confined spaces of the pub. A good turnout of intrepid hashers including archives and visitors!

The group was summoned “out the backdoor” to circle up in the rear parking lot.

Out the back door and into the rear parking lot

Insane Bolt was charged with running the circle as we got organized and prepared.

Snevil concentrating on something

Insane Bolt called the visitors and archives into the circle and went through the introductions and announcements.

Now it was time for the hares to tell us what they had in store. Given the muddy condition of the parking lot, an available dumpster was called in to accept the markings.

With the trail described, the hares indicated a direction and the hash was released.

The Trail

From the back alley the pack dispersed to find the marks and the true trail.

Bow River and a city view

Off to the East Village to check out the high density housing and see what other sights and sounds we could take in.

Now we near the construction site where the shrine to hockey is being constructed. The picture look impressive, but the hole needs more time before it is a thing.

The pack was distracted by a new park. Apparently, it seemed like a good idea to recreate the birthing of Bacchanal using the available playground equipment. It took many hands to recreate the event!

How much fun can we have with this shape?

With the birthing event completed, off to the eagle/turkey split in the trail. How long and hard would you like it this time?

The marks and the motivation to follow true trail started to dwindle. From the two layer park, the trail became a “dead reckoning” to where the regroup vehicle was spotted earlier in the run. With the tracks and other neighbourhood obstacles, both good and bad choices were made, but the regroup was eventually found.

Apparently, some of the hashers needed more distance to achieve their desired distance numbers. Others were pleased with the trail treasures that had been discovered and collected!

After suitable refreshments at the regroup, the pack reconvened back at the pub to prepare for the down down’s.

Bunny ears abound!

Hump the Shark prepared for the down down ceremonies.

Down Down’s

With no volunteers for Religious Advisor, Hump the Shark jumped in to organize and perform the down down’s. As Hump made notes and gathered his thoughts , it was now time to deliver the program.

Hump the Shark had a plan for the choir. He selected Beer in the Rear, Slow Clap and Skewbic Hair as choir. After the down down for the choir, he then designated Slow Clap as photographer so Skewbic Hair could focus on choir duties!

Actual choir

With the scene set, it was now time to recognize and honour the events of the trail.

After all was complete, Hump the Shark declared us to be “on the piss”.

Scribed by Skewbic Hair!

Trail Summary

The trail was between 7 and 9 km’s, depending on your Eagle vs Turkey leanings. A fine trail showcasing the views of Inglewood and the East Village.

Multiple Hash Holds On This Fine Trail!

The Beginning

With spring in the air, King Shit and Bacchanal volunteered to set trail on this mid April day. The weather was good and the hares had planned a multi stop adventure to celebrate the day. The start point was Citizen Brewing Company, a location familiar to the group. As this was a A to B run. the down downs were at a local pub called Offside Pub and Eatery. Some chose to park in between the A and the B.

The pack assembled at Citizen Brewing, some enjoying a pre run refreshment.

Getting ready for the circle!

Of interest, is that Citizen is next door to Pyro’s secret training centre. We now know how Pyro keeps in good shape!

PMS stepped in and sent us across the street to the customer parking lot to circle up. We had visitors, birthdays and a new boot, plus numerous versions of the hash shit available for distribution.

Looks like a circle
PMS starting the circle

PMS called the hares into the circle to describe the marks. Bacchanal declared this to be a special day on the calendar, Cake and Cunnilingus Day (C&C Day) and that special treats would be available at the hash hold.

Including viewpoint (VP) and trail treasures (TT)

There were multiple hash holds on the run promising some interesting experiences! As well, there was talk of five playgrounds for your playing pleasure.

We were directed to the first marks and the pack was released.

The Trail

Up the hill following marks that lead to a false trail. Around in circles through the alleys to eventually find true trail.

Shakesbeer with a trail treasure and a viewpoint

After taking in the view and inspecting the trail treasures, the pack was off to find a playground.

Playground 1 achieved – let the playing begin!

Off to find more trail and what lies beyond. Where are these hash holds that were promised!

Not enough pictures!

The first hash hold was discovered. With cake and jello shots celebrating the days theme, Cake and Cunnilingus.

These look yummy!
Best day of the year!

With our cake and jello treats done, off to find more trail, parks, and the next hash hold!

Some neighbourhood features were discovered!

Snow Blower points out words of wisdom

Hump the Shark discovered a trail treasure that made him very happy!

Hump would like to take this in for a tune up!

Another playground was found. Much playing happened.

Off we go to find more trail and playgrounds! How long is this trail anyway?

Thankfully, this last park was convenient to the regroup.

Regroup – refreshments!

Off to the Offside Pub for the down down’s. Conveniently located near the regroup!

The group settled in and ordered drinks and snacks anticipating the start of the down down’s

The Down Down’s

The Offside was a bit crowded but they had what we needed. Hump the Shark assembled his material for the closing ceremonies. Down down beer was poured and Hump was ready to begin!

A choir was chosen and Stool Stuffer and Karate Klit sang themselves a song!

With the down down’s done, Hump the Shark declared us to be “on the piss”.

The group continued on with their mirth and merriment after a find set of down down’s.

Scribed by Skewbic Hair.

Trail Summary

The run was somewhere between 7 and 8 km’s. Not counting the long walk back to where the cars were parked. A fine trail with fun hash holds!

Hash Extra

Many photo’s were taken and shared for this run. Here are some to add to the experience!

Run 2394 – Pyro Lights It Up

Hares:   Pyro

Spring is in the Air!

The Beginning

Pyro volunteered to set trail in Ranchlands NW. We have ran from the Stonewall Pub in the past, and have experienced the trails and forests of this neighbourhood. Pyro has lots of experience but admitted that he found new terrain in the scouting that he was pleased to include in the run.

The pack assembled in the pub until it was time to circle up outside.

Stonewall Pub in Ranchlands NW

There was a parking lot at the rear of the strip mall, well suited for a circle to form. Insane bolt ran the circle.

Circle up

The formalities of announcements and introductions proceeded. No unusual business except for the announcement that our next Mismanagement meeting will happen on Tuesday at the Elephant and Castle Pub.

The group figured out how to make a circle and prepared for the adventure that would unfold courtesy of Pyro.

Insane Bolt summoned the hare into the centre of the circle who proceeded to describe the marks.

Ready for the hare!

The pack was released and dispersed to find the trail.

The Trail

Out of the parking lot, marks were found and the pack was afoot. Large H’s on the sidewalk were found and followed. The sound of “On On” resonated through the neighbourhood.

Surprisingly uphill

Nature was present with spring flowers and other evidence of spring being present.

Spring Flowers

Eventually, we found the marks that led us to the regroup beer.

Regroup location

It was decided that the down down’s would be outside. Weather was good and we could splash out more down down beer.

The Down Down’s

Camshaft was the Religious Advisor for the evening. He scratched down some digital notes on his phone and collected stories from the group. Eventually, it was show time and the ceremonies started!

Show Blower, PMS, and Booty Camp – French Connection

There were some antics involving Skewbic Hair, for some crime of insignificant proportion.

Apparently, there was some evidence of photo’s of photo’s.

With all done, we honoured the RA with a down down and were declared “on the piss”.

The group retired to the pub for beer and food. Not a lot of pictures, just this evidence of yam fries.

Trail Summary

A fine trail close to 5 km’s. Great views and lots of up and down made the run an enjoyable experience. Thanks to Pyro for a fine trail.

A message from Hump the Shark!

The Beginning

Setting a run on the eve of April Fool’s Day can be an interesting time. One of the hares, Hot Quickie, is know as April in the non hashing world. Both Beer in the Rear and Hot Quickie are marathon distance people. What could possibly be in store for the group!

The pack assembled at Shank’s Sports Grill on Macleod Trail in the South West.

Through this door pass the thirsty and hungry sports minded folks!

A large emporium to drinking, eating and sports, we arrived to take in the scale of the place inside. Our server was very interested in the group as she claimed to have some running and drinking aspirations!

We were set with a private section in the bar for when we returned from out run.

PMS made some sort of command to get the group outside to circle up in the parking lot. With the daylight hours, no flashlights required!

PMS ran the circle, with announcements and introductions.

PMS in command

The hares were called in to the circle to describe the marks for the trail.

The pack was released into the traffic on MacLeod Trail looking for marks.

The Trail

Along the roads we found marks in pink. The trail was not overmarked, so each mark found was a revelation!

Across the busy roads to the solace of the quiet neighbourhoods. You do not appreciated the hills and alleys in Haysboro until you have to run them.

Presenting Haysboro

Park action was enjoyed. Playtime was to focus. Safety first.

After the playing was done, the group moved on to find more attractions. The bridge over the C-Train lines offered some views of urban development.

We are unsure what to make of this. There are siemens involved and a notice to refrain from humping

Once over the tracks, all Horton Roads lead to the regroup.

From the regroup, off to the bar for the down down’s.

The Down Down’s

The pack settled in to our designated section and ordered beer and food. Chatting and socializing prior to the start of the closing ceremonies. Slow Clap, supported by Hump the Shark, got the facts straight for the stories and lies they were about to perform.

With the limited down down beers ready to go, the Religious Advisors were ready to go. A choir was selected of Strap On and Slippy Thong and the performance commenced.

Limited down down’s

Eventually, the RA’s remembered to call up the hares and thank them for the run.

Other various and sundry offences were declared and celebrated.

Eventually, the production was complete and we were declared “on the piss”. Fine job by our aspiring RA Slow Clap. Strap On volunteered for next week (in case she forgets).

Scribed by Skewbic Hair.

Trail Summary

We ran somewhere between 6 and 7 km’s through the neighbourhood of Haysboro. Great views of MacLeod Trail and the C-Train tracks. More hills in Haysboro than you would expect!

Hash Extra

More foolish pictures from the Monday run. Don’t get fooled again!

Burns Block in Inglewood – Where Beer and Pinball Live

The Beginning

Tighty Whitey volunteered to hare this run. With the longer daylight hours, we start in the light and end in the twilight. Burns Block Social Club in Inglewood SE was the start point for the run. The location is the legacy Revival Brewery and Arcade which features plenty of pinball games.

The hashers assembled inside only to be instructed to circle up in the rear parking lot. A rather hap hazard collection this week, struggled to get the circle shape right.

A good turn out for a warm day with daylight for the run!

PMS, returning from some exotic travel destination, was in charge of the circle. Announcements and introductions were conducted and the hare was called into the circle. Perhaps AP had some role in setting the trail as well…..

We have made these marks for you
Follow these marks and all will be revealed.

After the marks were described, with an emphasis on the viewpoint, the pack was released into the setting sun.

The Trail

Off through the streets of Inglewood, along the Elbow River toward the Saddledome. Good views along the pathways were enjoyed until the stairs were discovered.

Apparently this signage is significant. Not sure if it is the family name recognition that Bacchanal identifies with, of the offer to stop for a 3 way….. Choices?

Who knew?

The sun set was observed and for those that found the stairs, a viewpoint was provided!

Some sunset shots were taken as proof that there was an actual viewpoint!

Down the stairs, back along the pathway to find more trail.

Apparently, there was some park action for the adventurous. Never let a play opportunity go by without taking time to play.

Hot Pants and Stool Stuffer sharing a moment

After many kilometers, the regroup was spotted and refreshments were enjoyed by all.

Three photogenic hashers and LSOS

Eventually, it was time to get back to the pub to begin the down down’s

The Down Down’s

Back to the Burns Block Social Club to get organized for the down down’s. Tight quarters makes for a cozy situation. Beer and food order in preparation for the main event.

What is the best deal here?

Hump the Shark was the Religious Advisor for the evening, and the choir was Dastardly and Roaring Nancy. The program started with an acknowledgement to the choir, the hare, and Shakesbeer.

A series of crimes and accusations were revealed, which included:

AP and Pyro for discussing politics on trail, LSOS for being an archive and arriving back to Canada injured, Karla, the new boot. Shortcutting, bike riding to the hash, and other serious events.

Eventually, the material was spent, the beer was consumed and all was good.

Hump the Shark declares the group “on the piss”.

Trail Summary

If you made no mistakes, the trail was 5 km. Not what most people observed as 6 + km was typical. Great trail!

Hash Extra

The scribe was unfortunately unable to attend the run due to a skiing engagement in Jasper. I am sure I would have enjoyed the trail if I was there. My substitute fun was OK as well!

St. Patrick’s Day Green

The Beginning

St. Patrick’s Day is a time to celebrate. Everything Irish and everything green. Thankfully, our hares were on top of the cause and made the effort to select and Irish themed pub to host the event, and encourage green attire be worn for the run.

The group assembled at Murdoch’s in the light of the early evening, thanks to Daylight Savings Time!

The pack was called to circle up by Insane Bolt and congregated in the parking lot close to the pub.

With the St. Patrick’s Day spirit, there were some special treats for the pack to enjoy. Artfully created Jello shots in appropriate colours!

Insane Bolt ran the circle, working through announcements and introductions. The hares were called into the circle to explain the marks for the run.

The pack was released to find the marks and enjoy the trail.

The Trail

Off went the pack into local neighbourhoods of Glendale, Killarney and Glenbrook.

Is that weather over there?

Thankfully, parks were available for the pack to play in.

Park spotted
Spring Loaded playground toys are the best!

Through the streets and alleys the run unfolded, much to the pleasure of the runners and walkers!

A long and challenging trail eventually ended up at the regroup, where this was much rejoicing and refreshments.

Girl Guide cookies were available courtesy of Huggy Bear and her supportive mother – Strap On Crampon.

After the regroup was done, it was off the the bar to settle in and start the down down’s.

The Down Down’s

Murdoch’s Pub and Grill was well set up to handle the group. The pack settled in for food and beverages.

The Religious Advisor duties were performed by the Hump the Shark. Choir of Liquor Lots and Hot Cheeks.

It was difficult to piece together the story with the pictures, but this is what you should find here:

Hares, for setting a fine trail. OPP for sending a runner to the Kayak for another Jello show. Daisy Duke was an archive. King Shit’s dog, Vinnie, apparently left a package in the parking lot. KK has special new shoes. Never Been and Just Francis were bashing. Dastardly for being a leprechaun with beer supply. Just Jen possible naming. Strap On dealing cookies. LC got lucky.

After all was done, the pack was declared “on the piss”

Scribed by Skewbic Hair in absentia.

Trail Summary

A fine run of over 6 km’s was delivered the the willing group. Good use of the green colour to enjoy the day!

Hash Extra

The scribe was unfortunately unable to attend the run due to a skiing conflict in Whitefish Montana. Checking to see if it has the vibe for a new province.

Daylight Savings Time Ends Darkness!

The Beginning

The clocks have shifted and we now have more daylight in the evening. That hour of lost sleep is eventually forgotten and we bask in the glow of a starting circle in the light.

OPP and Lazy Cummer volunteered to set trail. A good turn out for a run in the Marda Loop neighbourhood was anticipating an interesting run.

The group assembled inside the Marda Loop Brewing Company, and were called out to form a circle in the back parking lot.

PMS lead the circle as the group got organized.

PMS went through the announcement and introductions, then called the hares to the circle to explain the marks for the trail.

PMS working the circle

With the marks described, the pack was released to find the trail.

The Trail

A few false trails were discovered as the pack got their bearings and found the true trail marks. Through the neighbourhood of Marda Loop and the mud and moisture from the recent snow, the trail revealed itself.

The scribe was in the walkers group due to skiing over exertion. The walkers had a fine time exploring the development and construction occurring in the this part of town!

My inside sources suggest that the runners had a fun time finding the trail, and playing in any parks they could find.

The walkers were able to find the regroup in the parking lot of the brewery. Apparently, the runners had a significant amount of trail to run, and were delayed in arriving for refreshments.

Regroup at dusk

Eventually, once darkness had fallen, the balance of the group appeared to regale us with their conquest of the epically long trail. This shot is indicative of the level of darkness when the balance of the pack arrived.

The dark side of the regroup

The group gathered on the patio of the Marda Loop Brewing Company to order beer and food prior to the down down’s.

Eventually, Booty Camp was ready for the down down ceremonies.

The Down Down’s

Religious Advisor Booty Camp took control of the down downs and appointed a choir of Roaring Nancy.

Booty Camp thanked the hares for setting trail and then proceeded to come forward with a series of lies, accusations and crimes committed during the run.

With the down down’s done, the group engaged in the chatting and socializing until it was time to leave.

Scribed by Skewbic Hair.

Trail Summary

Some say this trail was 9 km when all done. Not sure how the sidewalk marks made it through the surprise snowfall.

The walkers were more straightforward with a big loop of close to 4 km.

Headlights on the Hill!

The Beginning

Thanks to Booty Camp and Snow Blower for stepping up to set the first trail in March 2025. Starting from Buffalo Bob’s Sports Bar in the SW, in the Glenbrook, Glendale neighbourhoods. The private room in the bar was reserved and we were set for the evening.

The weather shifted for the Monday run, where we had sustained above freezing temperatures, a dusting of snow and around freezing temperatures made the footing interesting.

The enthusiastic group turned out in good numbers as we prepared for the run at the bar.

Buffalo Bob’s Sports Bar, Pub, Grill….

We were called to the circle by Insane Bolt and headed outside to the cold and dark.

Insane Bolt called the group to order and went through an abbreviated version of the formalities.

The hares were called into the circle to describe the marks we had follow to enjoy the trail.

The pack was released and off we went to find the marks. Some confusion with running through the shopping area and industrial building before we ultimately found our way forward.

Through the streets, alleys and pathways the trail wound through the neighbourhoods.

Some gems were found on the pathways, with a snow person appearing, freshly made.

A bit icy and crunchy as the temperatures went down.

More trail until the next playground. Careful with the footing!

Strap On and LC test out the teeter totter. Shakesbeer supervises

Eventually we made it to the regroup, with Booty Camp protecting the deep puddle from the oblivious hashers.

Off to the pub to get set up for down downs.

The Down Down’s

At Buffalo Bob’s, we had a private room at the back. Good set up for the group as we got settled and ordered beer and food.

Eating and drinking done well

The religious advisor for the evening was Skewbic Hair. Dispensing with photo duties to Liquor Lots, a choir was chosen and the ceremonies commenced.

The choir of Roaring Nancy and Karate Klit were rewarded with down down’s, sang themselves a song to begin the program.

Choir getting ready!

Down down’s for the hares, leading into other crimes and offences being rewarded.

Hash shit was awarded to Insane Bolt for forgetting to do the introductions at the opening circle. He was able to hand it off to a hasher of his choice, and selected Camshaft.

A round of the camel song showed a good understanding of anatomy.

Spectacular View of the City

The Beginning

Shakesbeer has been out of the loop for some time. We are pleased that he has the courage to volunteer to set the trail. The location was Joyce on Fourth, an Irish type pub in the beltline. They have a room in the basement suitable for hosting the group.

Apparently, hashers arrived and gathered at the pub. Some of us were late due to the Mission bridge construction and subsequent detour.

Not too much for pictures prior to the run, but here is a picture of the pub in warm weather and daylight.

The Pub looks like this in the warm weather

A couple of photos of the walkers and the marks were provided as evidence that the circle took place.

The Trail

Being a bit behind the pack, some of us had to find the pack and join the run. Eventually, the headlights of the pack were sighted and the run was afoot.

With the melting conditions, the pathways were wet and icy. Challenging traction for those without spikes. Careful footing was the key.

Some parks were scattered along the way, and playing was encouraged!

Hump, Insane and Hot Quickie

More trail was discovered and we were treated to a viewpoint.

Some sort of group activity involving four people!

Thankfully, the regroup was near and we found the refreshments.

The regroup provided an opportunity to collect the group and score some pictures, missed from the circle.

With refreshments done, off to the pub for the Down Down’s

The Down Down’s

Off to the Joyce on Forth pub, to our room in the basement. Beer specials and food specials were available so…. a lot of eating and drinking.

This is How Cold it is!

The Beginning

Calgary has had a bit of a cold spell for the last 10 days of so. With temperatures in the -25 C range plus windchill, it makes for a chilly outdoor experience. At least the sun was out for the afternoon run, making a considerable difference.

The lead up to the run included encouragement to dress up in layers and do not be a wimp. As such, we had 17 hashers come out and enjoy the fine trail set by PMS and Liquor Lots.

We arrived at Two Pillars Brewing to start the run. Once parked, we circled up “outside”.

PMS was called into the circle to describe the marks she had chosen for the trail today.

With the instructions complete, the pack was released to find the trail.

The Trail

Off toward the river we ran. Not wanting to give up the high ground, the neighbourhoods revealed the marks to follow.

Of course there were sights to be seen and parks to play in.

Some sort of expensive urban art. Does not seem to mind the cold.
This would be a city view. Frosty!
The lion greets us!
No more Eau Claire Market!

Off through Princes Island Park over to the Peace Bridge to return to the North side of the rver.

The community provided some interesting ice sculptures. These were very popular with the the tactile folks in the group.

Waiting for the Chinook!

Eventually, we had to climb the massive hill to get to the top of Crescent Heights where we were greeted with a significant wind to freeze us to death.

Apparently there was a downhill and uphill section that some of the enthusiastic hashers took. Others preferred the flat elevation to the regroup.

Nothing like a cold refreshment on a cold day! Hot chocolate was available as well!

Off to the bar to warm up and conduct the down down’s.

Down Down’s

The Two Pillars Brewery was a bit small, but that did not stop us from finding space and running through our down down program.

Hump the Shark was Religious Advisor (RA) for the afternoon festivities. A choir was called and the down down’s commenced!

The hares were called up and acknowledged for the fine trail that had been set on this cold and frosty day.

More crimes and punishment were handed out by the RA. The Hash Shit has a new owner, and many offences were acknowledged.

There was some group activity which warranted down down’s.

On the Piss

After the down down’s, the group continued with mirth and merriment, and yummy beer from Two Pillars Brewery.

The Trail

A fine trail of 6 – 7 kms was enjoyed by the group. Pleased we had sunshine and a warm pub for afterwards.
