Peace Bridge!

The Beginning

Enthusiasm for setting trail improves as the days get longer. Thankfully, Booty Camp and Snow Blower were motivated to ensure the hash continued for another week.

The starting point was the west beltline area, 12th ave and 12th street SW at the Pig & Duke Neighbourhood Pub. Parking was a challenge, but not impossible.

The Pig & Duke Pub

The pub filled up with hashers assessing the venue and preparing for the run.

As the crowd arrived it was was time to head out to run the circle.

Circle forming outside

The circle formed with a reasonable turn out of hashers,

Insane Bolt ran the circle and went through the introductions and announcements.

The hares were called into the circle to describe the marks for the trail.

After a thorough explanation of the marks, Snow Blower pointed the direction of the trail and released the pack.

The Trail

Off we go into the construction zones nearby. Searching for marks which were found!

In the circle, it was declared that there would be no regroup due to parking limitations. Apparently that was modified at some point, but most did not find the regroup that was hosted in an adjacent parkade. Some of us enjoyed refreshments in the warm.

The Down Down’s

We settled into seats, ordered beer and food, and waited for the down down’s to begin.

The Religious Advisor for the evening was Liquor Lots. She was a bit tentative initially, but she prepared a fine program to finish off the run.

Liquor Lots – RA

A choir of Hardly and Insane Bolt were called up to start the singing of songs.

The hares were acknowledged for setting a fine trail.

Booty Camp and Snow Blower – Fine trail set by these hares

With the down down’s winding down, the RA for next week was volunteered to be Hardly, who will also set trail. A great act of kindness!

With the down down’s completed, we were declared “on the piss” by Liquor Lots.

Trail Summary

The trail was 6 km’s through the urban landscape with many features to enjoy. Great views and immersion into the downtown scene.

A Viewpoint in the Mayland Heights NE Neighbourhood

The Beginning

We were pleased and Camshaft and Mmmmmm Lady Fingers volunteered to set trail on a fine February evening. They chose a location in a obscure neighbourhood of Crossroads NE, adjacent to the Deerfoot Trail and Trans Canada highway.

A neighbourhood with some history, we stated from Gally’s Neighbourhood Pub in a 1950’s strip mall. It had a special vibe to it and happy hour prices for those pre run beverages. The weather was horrible with cold and snow rolling in making highway travel difficult.

Gally’s Neighbourhood Pub

Inside, where it was warm and dry, the crowd assembled in anticipation of a fine trail and some urban exploring.

Insane Bolt called for the group to head outside to circle up in the snow.

Skewbic Hair and Mmmm Lady Fingers (again!)

Insane Bolt ran the circle, going through the announcement and introductions.

Insane Bolt running the circle

The hares were called in to describe the marks they had set out for the trail.

Camshaft pointed in a direction and the pack was released.

The Trail

Off like a herd of turtles, trying to find marks through the recent blanket of snow. Out of the shopping centre and into the neighbourhood. Marks were spotted and the pack was afoot.

Some fine views of the city were found. All made more romantic with the constant buzz of the Deerfoot Trail enhanced by the airplanes that were landing continuously.

Viewpoint

There was some art to be found. Who knew that they had this stuff hidden in this neighbourhood!

Quite the installation!

There was mention of a shot stop. We were pleased when we found this!

Off again to find the trail. Some hashers invented their own way back to find the regroup. A fine trail!

Eventually, back to the parking lot to find the awaiting vehicle with yummy refreshments!

Back to the pub to prepare for the down down’s.

The Down Down’s

The pack assembled in the pub and settled down to order food and beer. The Religious Advisor, Lazy Cummer worked on his material for the down down’s.

With the program complete, it was time to beg for next week’s Religious Advisor. Liquor Lots said no, then she became a maybe with help from Camshaft. I am sure she will do a great job.

Exploring the Ravines of Evanston NW

The Beginning

Insane Bolt agreed to set trail in the extreme North part of town. For those of in the South, to have a run set “North of Stoney Trail”, is like having to travel large distances to the run start.

Thankfully, Google Maps can tell you how to get there from where you are at.

The start point was found in the Creekside strip mall, which also harbours the Pet Plant store formerly owned by an ancient hasher, Knobby.

A find location to start a run from

Inside the pub the group found some tables set aside for us to congregate.

Getting ready for the run

Camshaft called the group out to form a circle outside. With the weather sill unseasonably warm, most of the ice and snow had been dissipated.

Camshaft ran the circle and went through the announcements and introductions.

The hare was called into the circle to explain the marks he has places in this northern neighbourhood for the pack to discover.

The pack was released into the parkland behind the mall to find the trails and the marks!

The Trail

Off through the parking lot to find the first marks. There were pathways in the dark where marks could be found.

After some confusion with the Eagle/Turkey split, parts of the pack managed to find the regroup vehicle and enjoy the adult beverages contained within,

Early arrivers

The runners eventually appeared after their long distance trek to also enjoy refreshments.

Later arrivers

After a fine regroup is was time to go back to the pub to find some food and refreshments.

The group found tables, food and beer and all was good again!

The Down Down’s

The beer was poured in preparation for the closing ceremonies. Camshaft was Religious Advisor for the evening. His long trip away in the warmth had revitalized his has spirit.

Tales and crimes were figured out, and it was time to go.

The RA was ready and it was showtime!

Camshaft has this one

A choir was selected with Snow Blower and Mmmmmm Lady Fingers engaged to select the songs.

Best choir ever!

The Onesie of shame was acknowledged and dealt with. XXX Ray did a fine job of wearing the colours!

And now, for the main event, PMS has a milestone acknowledging 500 runs.

A find job done by Camshaft and we were declared “on the piss”. The group settled into more socializing and refreshment consumption.

Run Summary

A great trail in a new neighbourhood was set by Insane Bolt. Some were able to squeeze 9 km’s out of the trail. The moderate turkeys landed at 5 km+. Who knew we could have such a great run so far north!

The Beginning

Dastardly and Hardly volunteered to set trail to honour two causes, Ground Hog Day and Lay’em in Snow Memorial Run (hence Brown Dog Day). Ends up being a very long run title. Lay’em in Snow was a long term hasher who passed away recently (3 years ago). He was know for having some sort of brown dog (Luna). He is in our thoughts.

The run started near the trendy neighbourhoods of Forest Lawn and Radisson Heights. With a surprising number of parks and schools, the set the stage for multiple playground opportunities.

Look what is having a birthday!

The Beginning

A fun Castle Mountain Ski trip was thoughtfully arranged by Hot Cheeks this year. Early booking meant that we got the chalet that we wanted. The Timberock Chalet has an upstairs, downstairs and a hot tub. What more could the hash ask for.

Once you have traversed the ice, the steps are rewarding!

Following tradition, a run was set for the Saturday evening. A numbered run, which heightens the hashing experience at Castle Mountain.

Shakesbeer volunteered to set trail through the community and the wilderness trails. A daunting task for one hasher to complete, but Shakesbeer came through after a tough day of skiing the mountain!

After skiing, T-baring, hot tubbing, steam showering, it was time for the group to get ready to run the trail. Rousing them from their beer enhanced lethargy was a challenge.

With suitable encouragement, shoes, ice crampons, hats and gloves were found and the ritual of putting on the shoes began.

Eventually, the pack formed at the bottom of the stairs of the chalet, eager to get this run started and finished.

The pack emerges from the comfort of inside

Collecting the group into a circle proved challenging. However, through perseverance, the stand in Hash Master, Skewbic Hair, managed to pull this off.

With the announcements and introductions completed, the hare was called into the circle to describe the marks for the trail.

With the instructions complete, the pack was released to the darkness and ice to find the marks.

The Trail

The trail headed off in an easterly direction toward the parking lot. Flagging marks were found and we now had a direction to follow along the road to the parking lot.

At the guest services (hostel) location, more marks were found to lead us onto the village trail. Footing was difficult and the marks were somewhat difficult to find for the runners.

As we continued through the forest, eventually stumbling upon more marks and the designated stop for the visit with our Ski Calgary Group friends who were also enjoying Castle this weekend.

After a bit of hospitality, we were back on the trail to complete our mission.

Looks good at night!

Eventually we found our way back to the Timberock Chalet, and proceeded inside to get organized for the down downs.

The Down Downs

With great anticipations, the group settled down into their comfy couches in anticipation of the down downs. The Religious Advisor was Skewbic Hair. A very busy evening for this guy.

Skewbic Hair was called into service to conduct the down downs. No choir needed, so lets just get into it!

To the host, Hot Cheeks for making this weekend happen!

Now, to the hare for setting such a fine run through the wilds of the Castle Mountain community.

Shakesbeer made the trail happen – Shitty trail!

We have a naming. The person formerly known as Just Rowena, receives here own hash name of Raw Weiner! The smile says it all.

Others were acknowledged for various crimes and infractions. We did have some drop in folks from the Ski Calgary Group who are interested in knowing more about our cult. Recruitment potential!

With the formalities over, it was time to get serious about T-barring, hot tubbing and beer drinking. These are the reasons we come on these trips!

Trail Summary

An epic meandering trail through the dark with plenty of ice and chances to fall. No one died and all returned safety. Thanks to Shakesbeer to setting the trail.

Walkers Posing!

The Beginning

We are happy when volunteers step up to set trail. Thankfully, we are experiencing a Chinook with warm weather and wind. Makes for slippery conditions on the trail.

OPP, Liquor Lots and Strap On Crampon were the hares. Plan A had us running out of Leopold’s Pub on Elbow Drive SW. That changes when the owners realized they were not able to accommodate a group this large. Plan B was Swig’s Pub & Grill in Cedarbrae SW. They put some tables aside and we were good to go.

Swig’s has a history of being the first neighbourhood put in Calgary, known as Ye Olde Manor, opening in 1980. Pubs in Calgary were typically associated with hotels and restaurants in the past. So, this location has some good history.

Imagine this as dark and winter like!

The pack assembled outside as PMS organized the circle.

Missing a few pictures here, Stool Stuffer, On In, PMS, Coq Titty and others. Camera shy bunch this week

PMS ran the circle, going through announcements and introductions. The hares were called into the circle and went through describing the marks. The slushy conditions made it difficult to mark the snow/pavement, so Booty Camp was selected to host the marks.

With the marks fully described, the pack was released into the wilds of Cedarbrae.

The Trail

The pack dispersed in search of the marks for true trail. There was a split between walkers and runners. I took notes highlighting the walker’s adventure.

Leaving the parking lot
Warm evening…..

Through the sidewalks, alleys and pathways, the group eventually made it back to the location where the regroup was located.

After enjoying suitable refreshment, the pack headed back to the pub to order beer and food.

Hump the Shark was the Religious Advisor (RA) for the evening, and he prepared his material from the down down’s.

Beverages at the ready!

The Down Down’s

With the beverages in place, Hump the Shark began the down down program.

A choir was selected with PMS and Lazy Cummer ready to perform the singing duties.

New Years Lights?

The Beginning

For the first regular Monday night hash run of 2026, Mr. PeeeeeNut volunteered to set trail. We are thankful that we had a volunteer to kick off the greatest hash season of 2026.

Mr. PeeeeeNut chose Moose’s Beanery & Bar for the run location. This is a great place to host the hash with a large room at the back and great prices on beer and food.

Moose’s Beanery & Bar – Ready to host the hashers!

The group assembled inside and prepared for the run. Checking out the special and food deals prior to setting out on the trail.

With no current Hashmasters present, Past It Master Princess Monkey Spanker called the group to circle up outside and mobilized the pack.

Circle forming in the dark

PMS ran the circle, going through the announcements and introductions.

PMS called the hare into the circle to describe the marks that have been set for the trail.

With a succinct description of the marks, Mr. PeeeeeNut pointed a direction and released the pack to find the marks for the true trail.

Past the light show, it was time to find the regroup and enjoy either a hot chocolate or a warm beverage of choice.

A short walk back to the bar, the group settled in for an evening of eating, drinking and socializing.

The Down Down’s

Hardly volunteered to be the Religious Advisor (RA) for the evening. He prepared his material and the beer gatherer sourced the down down beers.

Beverages ready!

Hardly started to down down’s with choir selection, singling out Can You Hear Me Now and Knight Stalker.

Hardly then called up the hare and a number of other hashers for recognition.

Mr. PeeeeeNut – Hare

Best address in the neighbourhood!

The Beginning

Nothing like an afternoon run on New Year’s Day to set the year off to a good start. We were pleased when Slippy Thong volunteered to set trail on this auspicious day.

This is an afternoon run where the group is encouraged to wear there best formal wear. The result is quite an interesting display of fashion sense.

We started at Slippy’s place, where she had set an ambitious trail. We appreciated the effort that she put forward for this signature event.

The group collected inside in the warm, and started munching on the abundance of snacks and treats that Slippy had provided.

We waited attentively for the arrival of the last hashers to appear, then headed outside to circle up in the grey, foggy weather.

Skewbic Hair and photo bombers

Stool Stuffer ran the circle and went through the announcements and introductions. With a small group, that did not take much time.

Slippy Thong was called into the circle to describe the marks she had diligently set for a serious trail.

The marks were explained by Slippy Thong

With the marks described, the hash had a bit of a revelation. Given the state of the group (old, tired, injured etc.), the pack declared this to be a walk with a beer and a chat. Slippy complied, as she will put the trail in inventory to bring it back out for the Full Moon Trail in February 2026.

Off we went on our New Years walk.

After an arduous lap of the pond, we stumbled across the regroup where suitable beverages were available! A great way to start the year with a minor walk with a celebration at the end.

Best regroup of the year!
Twisty and Slippy Thong

With the regroup complete, we headed back to Slippy’s place for eating, drinking and down down’s.

The Down Down’s

Stool Stuffer was the Religious Advisor (RA) for the afternoon. He prepared his program and the refreshments were made ready.

Down Down’s ready

Stool Stuffer began going through his list of crimes, punishments and rewards!

A view of the city!

The Beginning

What a privilege it is to set the last trail of the year! What a great way to celebrate the opening of a new craft brewery! The Good Cheer Brewing enabled us to sample some new beer for the tail end of the old year!

The Good Cheer Brewing occupies the space formerly used by the Evil Corporation Brewing Company, which was known to the hashers. The new owners have reinvented the space with a 1600’s theme “order of good cheer” . Think Samuel de Champlain and his pals in Quebec and you are on the right track.

We look forward to their south facing patio as the weather gets warmer.

Good Cheer Brewing – Patio promise!

Inside, those that were there early were treated to a brewery tour by the owner Nathan. The balance of the pack wandered in an looked over the goodies they had on offer to be enjoyed after the run.

Camshaft called the group outside to form a circle. Bright parking lot lights created some photographic challenges.

The weather was good as a chinook had blow in. Above freezing temperatures made for slippy and sloppy underfoot.

Missing a couple of pictures, including Tighty Whitey and Mmmmm Lady Fingers and Slippy Thong.

Camshaft went through the announcements and introductions.

Camshaft is the centre of attention as he runs the circle

The hares were called into the circle to describe the marks for the run.

With the trail described, the park was released to find the true trail.

The Trail

Off out of the parking lot in all directions. False trails galore were discovered and eventually the true trail marks were found.

Through the alleys, streets and sidewalks we continued on trying to find the illusive marks. The hare was helpful in keeping us going in the right direction.

Trail Summary

Given the excellent marks to be found, and the complication of an eagle/turkey split, the run distance was variable depending of your experience. Some say it was close to 7 km in distance, but your actual distance may vary. A fine trail through the wilds of Ramsay SE was enjoyed by the pack.

Others may have run different distances….

Run 2437 – Boxing Day Boxer Shorts Run

Hares: Hardly and Twisty

Location: Hardly and Twisty Place

https://maps.app.goo.gl/QbDMYs8TW9dg2joX6

RA: Tighty Whitey

Attendance: 10

Wear your Boxing Shorts!

The Beginning

As Christmas is not hectic enough, it is always a good plan to have a run on Boxing Day, December 26. As society wakes up to hit the malls for the Boxing Day sales, the hash prepares for the traditional afternoon run to celebrate the occasion.

Wear your boxing shorts or a wrapped cardboard box and you have what you need for the run.

Hardly and Twisty volunteered to set trail and host the run. The afternoon was cool but sunny. Not much temperature, but not the polar vortex either.

The group arrived at the Hardly Twisty house to prepare for the run. As the afternoon is difficult for some, there were some tardy hashers who missed the circle and start. More on that later!

Thankfully, there were hashers who had the presence of mind to take pictures in the absence of the hash photographer and scribe, who was late to the party.

The circle was called and the intrepid hashers marched down the front stairs to circle up across the street at Dirty Dancer’s driveway.

The circle was conducted by someone present, and the hares were called into the circle.

With the marks explained, the pack was released to find the true trail.

The Trail

Off through the snowy neighbourhoods to find the marks. The blue chalk marks were located and the trail was ran. A sufficient number of check backs were also found on trail to heighten the trail experience.

The trail reached the end, and the group assembled in the nice heated garage of Dirty Dancers to go through the down downs.

The Down Downs

The warm garage location was much appreciated. There was refreshments and food. Hardly and Twisty did a fine job of handling the crowd.

This is the point where the late comers, Scoobie and King Shit found the balance of the pack. All was well and there was much rejoicing.

The group got settled and enjoyed the fine food and goodies.

Tighty Whitey was the Religious Advisor (RA) for the afternoon. Tighty has fond memories of being named at such an event at the defunct Len’s Den pub in the Ambassador Motel. Apparently the boxing shorts theme was interpreted as the underwear he had on. Fact or fiction, it was the motivation for or RA to share his namesake wardrobe.

Are you ready?

TW went through his program of honouring those that set up the trail, as well as other stories that required a down down.

With the down down’s complete, Tighty Whitey declared the group to be “on the piss”.

A fine boxing day event and thanks to all that made it happen.
